The latest game in the increasing line of LEGO-themed games takes you to Middle-Earth and the world of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings! More specifically, this game is based upon Peter Jackson’s film adaptions of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King, no doubt to coincide with the release of the new Hobbit film.

Similar to the previous LEGO games, each film of the trilogy is split into six levels based around the major events of the movie. Unlike those games, however, LEGO: The Lord of the Rings is open-world, leaving you free to roam around a scaled version of Middle-Earth inbetween levels. Furthermore, alongside the traditional slapstick LEGO humour, cutscenes now contain audio and dialogue directly cut from the films.

As for the trophies, they are standard LEGO fare and should be familiar to anyone who has played any of the previous games. These include trophies for completing every level in Story Mode, then mopping up the huge number of collectables in Free Play and Free Roam, before polishing off the often-humorous miscellaneous trophies.

GLITCH WARNING – As you probably noticed from scanning the Overview, there are unfortunately four glitched trophies in the game. The glitch for the first three trophies refers to the collectables required for 100% and is caused by using the save statues located in the story levels. It appears that if you save at one of the save statues mid-level, collect a Minikit or a Treasure Item and then choose “save and exit” from the Pause menu without finishing the whole level, the next time you load up the level from the save point, the Minkit/Treasure Item will be replaced by a LEGO stud, but the Minikit/Treasure Item will not be registered in your inventory. Thus, My Precious... (and by extension, There and Back Again) are unobtainable (as you obtain one Mithril Brick per completed Minikit), as is Here’s a pretty thing! as crafting all mithril items requires every Mithril Brick to do so.

There are some solutions to this glitch, however. The most obvious of these is to never utilise the save statues mid-level, and instead just play a level the whole way through. If you must quit during a level, quit to XMB and your progress will not be saved. Another method is to back up your save frequently. Do this before your Free Play run, and then once every time you 100% a couple of levels. Then, if the game glitches, just load up an old save.

Traveller’s Tales are aware of the problem and have said that they will address it in a future patch. Therefore, if you have run into this issue and do not have a backup, you should wait for the patch and see if this fixes your problem before restarting the whole game again.

UPDATE: Traveller's Tales have indeed released a patch (1.01) which fixes the issues causing these trophies to glitch. Even if the game has already glitched on you, the first time you load your game up, the troublesome Minikit or Treasure will have been reset.

As for the It won't be that easy! glitch, some users have reported that they cannot get this to unlock, either in Story Mode or Free Play. The most simple fix for this is to collect all the other trophies and then backup your save. Delete all game data and saves and then start the game again from scratch. You should get to the point where you can unlock this trophy within 5-10 minutes. If it again doesn't lock, keep repeating this process until it does.

Note on cheats – As with previous LEGO games, you can input codes to unlock both cheats and characters by pressing :start: and then choosing “Extras” and “Enter Code”. The cheats are those which would be unlocked legitimately later in the game by purchasing them with Red Bricks. The codes to unlock cheats can be found in the trophy description for I told you he was tricksy. whilst the codes to unlock characters can be found in Not with 10,000 men.

Step 1 - Story Mode

During this step, simply play through the 18 main story missions. Do not make any effort to collect Minikits or Treasures in the levels or when roaming round Middle-Earth, as most of them will be unobtainable anyway. It will also make it easier in Free Play grabbing all the collectables without having to remember which ones you’ve already picked up. I strongly advise you upon starting the game to input the cheat code for Studs x2, which is 1F5YH2. Having Studs x2 enabled should be enough to get you True Adventurer on most levels, but if not, do not do any excessive grinding for it as this will be extremely easy in Step 4.

I also advise you to interact with any Map Stones that you come across in the world. These are the statues of an adventurer reading a map. By pressing :circle: in front of one, it activates it as a Fast Travel location and adds the collectables in that area to the map, meaning you'll have less work to do in Step 3.

As well as the trophies for completing each story mission, you will also unlock some unmissable miscellaneous trophies. Furthermore, I suggest you unlock the various missable trophies that can only be earned in Story Mode to avoid you having to replay entire levels later. These are listed below. By the end of this step, you should have all of the following trophies with It’s gone. being your last:

Story Mode trophies

(B) The strength of Men failed.

(B) It's a dangerous business...

(B) That is no trinket you carry.

(B) The long way around.

(B) This is no mine... it's a tomb.

(B) Let's hunt some Orc!

(B) On the Precious...

(B) Soft and quick as shadows...

(B) Safe is where I'll keep you.

(B) Stinking creatures...

(B) The battle is about to begin...

(B) A Wizard should know better!

(B) Naughty little fly...

(B) We did it, Mr. Frodo.

(B) They have been summoned.

(B) You and whose army?

(B) This day we fight!

(B) It's gone.

Unmissable Miscellaneous trophies

(B) Great! ...Where are we going?

(B)(H) That still only counts as one!

Story Mode missable trophies

(B)(H) It won’t be that easy!

(B) That is a rare gift.

(B) That one counts as mine!

(B) We cannot linger.

(B) Pointy-eared Elvish princeling.

Step 2 - Bonus Level

Your next step should be to complete the Bonus Level. Once you’ve finished the game, the transparent blue studs will lead you to a waterfall in Rivendell, behind which you will find the Bonus Level. As with all previous LEGO games, destroy everything in the level to collect 1 million studs and complete the level. Unlike previous games however, you get to keep the studs you acquire here, which will prove useful for Step 3. Completing the Bonus Level will net you:

(S) The Lord of the Ring.

Step 3 - Preparation for Free Play

Before you jump straight into your Free Play cleanup run, you will need to do some preparation first. The money you should have accumulated in Step 1 and the million you earned in Step 2 should be more than enough for everything you need. The characters you unlocked during Story Mode will have all the abilities you'll need for the collectables, except for someone who can destroy the shiny mithril rocks and padlocks. For this, you will need the Berserker character who can be bought for 200,000 studs at Helm’s Deep or unlocked for free with this code: UE5Z7H.

There are also some levels where, even in Free Play, you can not change your character. Therefore, you will need to acquire certain mithril items which you can equip in the level from your Treasure Trove. To acquire them, you will first need to find the Blacksmith Design Recipe in a story level or in Middle-earth, and then go to the Blacksmith in Bree and craft the item with the required number of mithril blocks. The mithril items you will need for this step are:

  • Any mithril bow, although the easiest and cheapest to obtain is the Mithril Cluster Bow. The design can be found in “The Pass of Caradhras” and requires 4 mithril bricks.
  • Mithril Rope, found in “Amon Hen” and requires 3 mithril bricks, or the Toy Snake treasure found in “The Dead Marshes”.
  • Mithril Boxing Gloves, found in “Osgiliath” and requires 4 mithril bricks.
  • Mithril Bottomless Bucket, found in Edoras and requires 16 mithril bricks.
  • Mithril Shockwave Axe, found in “Prologue” and requires 4 mithril bricks, or the Golden Axe treasure found in “The Paths of the Dead”.

You should have Studs x2 from Step 1, so before you begin Free Play, you should add Studs x4 to your collection, making a head start on Delved too greedily… to avoid excessive grinding later. To obtain this, find the Blacksmith Design Recipe for the Mithril Fishing Rod in the “Track Hobbits” mission and then on the map, find the green question mark indicating a Fetch Quest that is on the west bank of the River Anduin at Amon Hen (just to the right of the Map Stone). Turn in the Quest and you will be rewarded with the Studs x4 Red Brick, which costs 1 million studs to buy (this was the reason for completing the Bonus Level first!). The other stud multipliers will be far above your current price range, so it is best to leave these until Step 4 to avoid any grinding.

Finally, if you have not done so already, activate all 16 Map Stones in Middle-Earth to make every collectable on the world map visible. This will secure you:

(B) Of all the inquisitive Hobbits.

Step 4 - Free Play and 100%

Now that you are fully prepared, it is time to begin your Free Play run. This will be by far the longest and most time-consuming step. You will have noticed at the end of your first playthrough that your completion percentage will have been somewhere between 25 and 30%. By the end of this step, you will need to have 100%, which is indicated by the unlocking of the There and Back Again. trophy. See that trophy’s description for a complete list of what is required for 100%

I would highly recommend playing through the 18 story missions in Free Play first rather than following the Fellowship’s journey from Hobbiton to Mordor, mopping up as you go. This is mainly because you will have most of the Treasures required for the Fetch Quests in each area, rather than having to constantly backtrack for them. If you did not get True Adventurer in every level on your first playthrough, then you will certainly have it now with your Stud Multipliers. This will earn you:

(S) Ready for another adventure.

Playing through the story missions a second time will also guarantee you the following miscellaneous trophies:

(B) Our only wish to catch a fish!

(B) What about second breakfast?

Finally, it is time to clean up Middle-Earth. Remember, you can check your progress in each area by pressing :select: and hovering the magnifying glass over the Map Stone of each area. You can mop up the areas in any order you please, although I advise that you save up and buy the Stud Multipliers x6, x8 and x10 as soon as they are available and you can afford them, rather than buying the characters on the map.

To help you with the collectables, you can follow CryicZ’S excellent written guide in sections 5 & 6 of this walkthrough, or you can use the videos of the main story levels created by HiddenLongshot

.

By the end of this Step, you should ultimately earn:

(S) I told you he was tricksy.

(G) There’s some good in this world.

(G) My Precious…

(B)(H) A link to the elements.

(S) Here’s a pretty thing.

(S) Not with 10,000 men…

(G) There and Back Again.

Step 5 - Clean Up

The final step is to mop up the remaining miscellaneous trophies. The most time-consuming of these is Delved too greedily… which will take some grinding, although if you activated your multipliers as soon as possible, this should not take too long as they are cumulative, meaning your multiplier will be x3840. Check the trophy descriptions in the guide for advice on how to achieve the miscellaneous trophies. Bear in mind that you will need a second controller for I’m glad to be with you., as there is no online co-op available. Once you have unlocked these trophies, you will have the following and your (P):

(B) Don’t tell the Elf…

(B) …And away he goes, Precious!

(B) I’ve always been taller!

(B) Dance of the dead.

(B) Taking the Hobbits to Isengard.

(B) An expected journey.

(B) Return of the Mushroom King.

(B) Worth greater than the Shire.

(B)(H) One does not simply…

(B) I’m glad to be with you.

(B) Delved too greedily…

(P) One Ring to build them all.

Get 100%. (Single Player Only)

This is the most time consuming trophy in the game. For 100% you will need to have completed the following:

  • Complete all Story levels
  • True Adventurer in every Story level
  • All 3 Treasures in every Story level
  • All 10 Minikits in every Story level
  • All 250 Mithril Bricks
  • All 50 Fetch Quests
  • All 20 Red Bricks
  • All 30 Blacksmith Design Recipes
  • Craft all 30 Mithril items
  • Obtain all 74 characters

See the trophy descriptions below for a more detailed description of the various collectables.

For a complete written walkthrough of the collectables, see Sections 5 and 6 of CyricZ’s walkthrough here. For a video guide of the collectables of the story levels in Free Play, see HiddenLongshot’s playlist

.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/52E.jpg My Precious... (G)

Collect all the Mithril Bricks. (Single Player Only)

This trophy requires you to collect all 250 Mithril Bricks. They are broken up in the following manner:

90 for Story levels:

  • One for every story level completed, for a total of 18.
  • One for all 10 Minikits in a level, for a total of 18.
  • One for collecting the Blacksmith Design Recipe in a level, for a total of 18.
  • One for obtaining all 3 Treasures in a level, for a total of 18.
  • One for achieving True Adventurer in a level, for a total of 18.

130 for Middle-Earth:

  • Completing all of the Fetch Quests in Middle-Earth that requires you to deliver a non-mithril Treasure item found in one of the story levels (i.e. a Fetch Quest that doesn’t reward you with a Red Brick). This will reward you with 30 mithril bricks.
  • The final 130 can be found in Middle-Earth during free roam.

To reveal the locations of the Mithril Bricks and Fetch Quests in Middle-Earth, interact with the Map Stones in each area with :circle:. Note that in the pause menu, the number of Mithril Bricks shown out of 250 is not how many you have collected, but how many you have used to craft Mithril items at the Blacksmith. Therefore, you will need to add that number and the number of Mithril Bricks in your bag to determine how many you have collected.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/3C1.jpg There's some good in this world. (G)

Complete all the Fetch Quests in Middle-earth. (Single Player Only)

Fetch Quests are denoted by the green question mark that appears on your map in Middle-Earth. There are 50 of these in total, 30 of which reward you with a Mithril Brick and 20 which give you a Red Brick.

To initiate a fetch Quest, either approach an NPC standing in plain sight or solve a puzzle to find the NPC, and press :circle:. If it is a Fetch Quest that rewards you with a Mithril Brick, they will ask you to bring them one of the Treasures that can be found in a story level. If it is one that rewards you with a Red Brick, you will have to find the Blacksmith Design Recipe for the mithril item that they require, either from a story level or Middle-Earth, and then craft their required item at the Blacksmith in Bree.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/4B5.jpg I told you he was tricksy. (S)

Collect all the Red Bricks. (Single Player Only)

There are 20 of these, which are obtained by completing the Fetch Quests that require you to bring a mithril item to the quest-giver. These are obtained by finding the Blacksmith Design Recipes throughout the game and crafting the mithril items at the Blacksmith in Bree.

Fortunately, 15 of the 20 Red Bricks can be unlocked by inputting a code by pausing the game, selecting “Extras” and then “Enter Code”. These do not disable trophies.

The 15 cheats and respective cheat codes are as follows:

  • 8-Bit Music (GD35HC)
  • Action Assist (T1JM4R)
  • Attract Studs (C7FJ7B)
  • Boss Disguises (F3H14H)
  • Character Studs (PR3V4K)
  • Disguises (MX26RJ)
  • Fall Rescue (WS68P2)
  • Fast Build (A2LU58)
  • Minikit Chest Finder (A24TVJ)
  • Mithril Brick Finder (B72D7E)
  • Mithril Hearts (2MCRDN)
  • Poo Studs (D49TXY)
  • Quest Finder (EY4K32)
  • Regenerate Hearts (H5L6N6)
  • Studs x2 (1F5YH2)

Unfortunately, the 5 most useful Red Bricks are not available to unlock using this method. You will need to find these by completing the required Fetch Quests. These are Invincibility, Studs x4, x6, x8 and x10. These cost 500,000, 1 million, 4 million, 8 million and 10 million studs respectively.

Also note that even if you use these cheats, you must still complete the Fetch Quests in order to obtain 100%. The Red Brick, even if already unlocked, will become available to buy when you have completed the appropriate quest, but it does not need to be purchased.

Unlock all the Map Stones in Middle-earth. (Single Player Only)

A Map Stone is a statue of a LEGO figure reading a map. These act as fast-travel points in Middle-Earth and when you hover your cursor over them, they show how many collectables are in each area. There are 16 to unlock, which is achieved by standing in front of it and pressing :circle:.

You will no doubt find most of these naturally when walking through Middle-Earth during the main story, but if you missed any, you can fast travel to any Map Stone (even if you haven’t already activated it) and then activate it. You will know when you have activated a Map Stone as all the collectables in that area will have dropped onto the map when you press :select:.

The following is the chronological order of Map Stones:

  • Hobbiton
  • Bree
  • Weathertop
  • Rivendell
  • The Pass of Caradhras
  • LothlĂłrien
  • Amon Hen
  • Emyn Muil
  • The Dead Marshes
  • Edoras
  • Helm’s Deep
  • Isengard
  • Minas Tirith
  • Minas Morgul
  • Cirith Ungol
  • The Black Gate

Unlock all characters. (Single Player Only)

There are 74 characters in the game. 29 of these are unlocked naturally by completing the story, 2 are received for completing the Bonus Level and 41 can be bought in Middle-Earth. 2 characters are unlocked after completing certain tasks: the Blacksmith after crafting all Mithril items, and Lurtz (Newborn) after achieving 100%. Lurtz (Newborn), however, does not count towards this trophy for some reason.

To purchase a character, first activate the Map Stone in an area to make the character’s icon show up on the map, or simply find them yourself by roaming around. If they are a good character, you will have the option to purchase them straight away and if they are an evil character, you will have to punch them a few times before they stop attacking you before you can purchase them.

In addition to this, there are cheat codes to unlock certain characters within the game and thus save you the studs required to purchase them. This means that you do not have to collect them in Free Roam and they will automatically disappear from your map. The codes are as follows:

  • Berserker (UE5Z7H)
  • Bilbo Baggins (J4337V)
  • Boromir (Captain) (HTYADU)
  • Denethor (RJV4KB)
  • Easterling (R7XKDH)
  • Elrond (2nd Age) (A9FB4Q)
  • Eomer (U47AOG)
  • Galadriel (7B4VWH)
  • Gamling (AVJII1)
  • Gondor Ranger (LG5GI7)
  • Grima Wormtongue (BU95CB)
  • Hama (73HJP6)
  • King of the Dead (IH7E58)
  • LothlĂłrien Elf (C2A58D)
  • Lurtz (Newborn) (QL28WB)
  • Madril (C19F3A)
  • Mouth of Sauron (F4M7FC)
  • Radagast the Brown (5LV6EB)
  • Ringwraith White (LYQU1F)
  • Shagrat (PJB6MV)

For a complete list of characters and where to find them, follow Section 7 of CyricZ’s guide here.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/F01.jpg Ready for another adventure. (S)

Achieve True Adventurer in every level. (Single Player Only)

True Adventurer is achieved by collecting a certain amount of studs in each story level. If you follow the advice in the Roadmap and unlock Studs x2 from the very beginning, you should get True Adventurer in the vast majority, or indeed all of, the levels during your first playthrough. If not, you will get this almost instantly in Free Play once you activate the other stud multipliers.

Complete the Bonus Level.

The Bonus Level is unlocked when you complete the game. After finishing the final level, either follow the trail of translucent blue studs to Rivendell, or simply fast travel there. Then find the waterfall they lead to and go behind it to find the entrance to the level.

If you’ve played any of the other LEGO games, you will know that the Bonus Level is about destroying as many things as possible to collect 1 million studs. This time, instead of a LEGO town unrelated to the subject matter of the game, there is a small replica of Middle-Earth to destroy as Sauron and the Mouth of Sauron.

Unlike previous LEGO games, you do not have to milk practically every last stud and destroy everything to reach the target of 1 million. It should come quite easily with some buildings left to spare. Also unlike previous games, you get to keep the 1 million studs you collect and you also unlock the two characters for use in Free Play.

Once you hit the 1 million stud mark, the level will automatically end and you will collect this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/944.jpg Delved too greedily... (B)

Collect more than 10,000,000,000 studs. (Single Player Only)

This will likely be the final trophy you will need. It takes some grinding, but luckily it does not take too long if you had all the multipliers activated during the majority of your Free Play run.

The quickest way that I found to collect 10 billion studs was to fast travel to Bree. Once you’re at the Map Stone, grab the purple stud immediately behind you and then head up the road to the right, at the end of which you should turn the crank to light the fire, which will create another purple stud. Then head to the entrance of the Prancing Pony, where there will be another purple stud in the doorway. Finally, use a small character to crawl through the hatch to get on to the balcony above the entrance to the inn, where another purple stud awaits you. Then, fast travel from the balcony back the Map Stone, but make sure that it is the opposite time of day from what you are in, as if you travelled from daytime to daytime or night-time to night-time the studs will not reset.

It is possible to get two more purple studs from lighting the four torches with Sam or completing the shooting gallery with Legolas, but this takes a bit of time and is quite fiddly, whereas with my method and a x3840 multiplier you will get 153,600,000 studs in 30 seconds.

Note that only studs collected by Player 1 count if you are playing in co-op, and that the trophy seems to only unlock after you have collected 10,100,000,000 studs, so do not panic if it doesn’t unlock straight away.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/CA6.jpg I'm glad to be with you. (B)

Complete a level in co-op.

You will need a second controller for this, as there is no online multiplayer feature. Furthermore, the trophy description is slightly misleading as this must be done in Story mode and not Free Play. This trophy is much easier than it seems, however, as you simply have to load up a level with a character assigned to each controller, wait for around 30 seconds until “Save and Exit” appears in the Pause menu, and then select it and watch the trophy unlock. For this reason, you should do this at the same time as We Cannot Linger.

UPDATE: This exploit has been fixed with Patch 1.01, so you must either earn the trophy legitimately or alternatively, delete (or refuse) the patch, earn the trophy and then install the patch again.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/E15.jpg Don't tell the Elf... (B)

Throw Gimli 30 times.

“Throwing” Gimli refers to picking him up with a larger character (i.e. not a Hobbit or a Dwarf) with :circle: and throwing him with :square: either at white cracked squares on walls or between two tall characters.

You will probably get this trophy naturally at the end of your collectable run, but if you wish to farm this you can do so as early as the “Pass of Caradhras” story level. Carry Gimli across the first snow drift with one of the tall members of the Fellowship, and then switch to another tall character and cross the snow. Then pick Gimli up and toss him repeatedly between the two tall characters and you will have this trophy in no time.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/D2A.jpg Our only wish to catch a fish! (B)

Fish perfectly 20 times by pressing the icon as it flashes.

Again, this is another trophy that you will get by the end of your collectable run. Throughout the game there are jetties which you can fish off for keys or cranks with either Merry or Gollum (or indeed any character once you craft the Mithril Fishing Rod, the Blacksmith Design Recipe of which can be found in “Track Hobbits”). When you start fishing, the button prompt will be surrounded by a circular fishing rod which closes in on the button. Once it fully closes in, the icon will briefly flash, which is your cue to hit the button prompt. You must do this three times to fish perfectly, and you will know you have done it because you will fish out blue and gold studs as well as your Treasure. Do this 20 times for the trophy.

It is possible to farm this trophy during the “Taming Gollum” level during the boss fight with Gollum. Once you have made the fishing rod with the three components, get the fish by fishing at the jetty and throw it at Gollum. However, don’t attack him like you are meant to, but instead wait until he has finished eating it and goes back to the wall. You will have to fish again, so keep repeating this until you get the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/259.jpg That is a rare gift. (B)

Reach the top of Amon Hen without being caught once by Boromir. (Single Player Only)

This trophy must be earned in Story mode in the “Amon Hen” level. At the start of the level, you will be playing as Frodo whilst wearing the One Ring and you must avoid walking past Boromir directly, as he will grab you and this trophy will be nullified.

This trophy is surprisingly easy, as you literally have to walk into him to make him catch you. Take it slowly and the obvious path should be clear. Wherever you can, throw rocks at the birds and statues above him to distract him, and use the Hobbit hatches and wraith bridges you can build to avoid him. The trophy will unlock when you throw the rock at the bridge he is standing under, which will collapse onto him and make him shout “Frodo, I’m sorry!” instead of just “Frodo?”

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/7F6.jpg ... And away he goes, Precious! (B)

Defeat Gollum as Gollum.

Once you have completed the game and unlocked Free Play, you will regain control of your characters in Middle-Earth. Simply swap them both to Gollum and kill the other Gollum with the one you control to unlock this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/8B9.jpg What about second breakfast? (B)

Complete 2 cooking puzzles.

You will get this trophy naturally when you play through the game again on Free Play. There is a cooking puzzle in Story mode in the “Weathertop” level, where you must gather certain ingredients, combine them in a pan and then heat it on a fire to further the story. The second puzzle will come in Free Play either when you play through “Weathertop” or the “Amon Hen” level again to mop up the collectables.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/43A.jpg That one counts as mine! (B)

Finish one of Gimli's opponents as Legolas in 'Helm's Deep'.

This trophy must be obtained in Story mode on the “Helm’s Deep” level. This is easiest to get during the part where you must knock the ladders off the ramparts. You get attacked by an unlimited stream of orcs until you knock the ladders down, so switch to Legolas and keep killing the orcs attacking your party until you get this. If you find that they aren’t attacking Gimli, switch to him with :triangle: to draw the heat onto him, then quickly switch back to Legolas and attack the orcs.

If you haven’t done so already, you should aim to unlock Pointy-eared Elvish princeling. at the same time.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/BA7.jpg I've always been taller! (B)

Use the Ent Draught on Pippin.

There are a few steps to follow to obtain this trophy. First, play through the “Track Hobbits” level on Free Play and collect the “Ent Draught” Treasure. Then once you are back in Middle-Earth, change one of your characters to Pippin. With the other character, equip the Ent Draught by holding :circle: and selecting “Treasure Trove” from the radial menu. Then select the Ent Draught to equip it, and hit Pippin with :square:. This will give him an inflated head and this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/E3D.jpg We cannot linger. (B)

Complete 'The Mines of Moria' in under 15 minutes.

This trophy is extremely simple, as you can use the same trick for this as you did with I’m glad to be with you. Load up the level in Story mode (not Free Play as it won’t count) and wait for 30 seconds until “Save and Exit” appears in the Pause menu. Do so, and this trophy will unlock.

UPDATE: This exploit has been fixed with Patch 1.01, so you must either earn the trophy legitimately or alternatively, delete (or refuse) the patch, earn the trophy and then install the patch again.

This trophy is easy to earn legitimately too, as the time limit is not strict at all if you have already completed the level and know where you are going.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/70D.jpg Dance of the dead. (B)

Turn an enemy into a skeleton and make them dance.

Despite what the description says, this trophy can be earned by performing it on your ally rather than an enemy. This is recommended as they will not attack you whilst you are changing items. Firstly, you must acquire the Blacksmith Design Recipe for either the Mithril Skeleton Bow or the Mithril Skeleton Sword, which can be found in Lothlórien and Weathertop respectively, and either the Mithril Disco Phial or the Mithril Music Horn, of which the Recipes can be found in Minas Tirith and “The Black Rider” respectively. Then craft the items at the Blacksmith’s in Bree, select them from your Treasure Trove, and attack your partner with the bow or sword. They will become a skeleton, at which point you should use the phial or the horn to make them dance and earn this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/F7F.jpg Pointy-eared Elvish princeling. (B)

Defeat 42 Uruk-hai as Legolas.

Uruk-hai appear in both the “Amon Hen” and “Helm’s Deep” levels. If you play as Legolas for the entire duration of these story levels, you should get this trophy without farming. However, if you still haven’t got it, the best place is at the beginning of “Helm’s Deep” when you have to push the ladders off the ramparts, as there is unlimited spawns of Uruk-hai until you do so. You should also aim for That one counts as mine! at the same time.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/BE7.jpg Great! ...Where are we going? (B)

Form The Fellowship of the Ring.

This trophy is unmissable and will be unlocked once you have watched the Council of Elrond cutscene in Rivendell between the story levels “Weathertop” and “The Pass of Caradhras”.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/D52.jpg Taking the Hobbits to Isengard. (B)

Travel to Isengard as every playable Hobbit.

This trophy is easier as it looks, as you only need to travel to Isengard with any variation of the 6 available hobbits in the game (Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Bilbo and Rosie), not all of their different forms. Bilbo and Rosie must be bought in Free Play, whereas the others are unlocked during the story.

Travelling to Isengard and cycling through your characters will not work, but fast travelling to the Isengard Map Stone will. Fast travel there with one of the hobbits, then change to another hobbit before you fast travel again. Repeat this for all 6 hobbits and the trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/933.jpg An expected journey. (B)

Travel to Trollshaws as Bilbo.

Trollshaws is the location between Weathertop and Rivendell. Fast travel to Weathertop and change your character to either Bilbo Baggins or Bilbo Baggins (Old) and walk towards Rivendell. Once you enter the area and “Trollshaws” appears on the bottom of your screen, this trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/901.jpg Return of the Mushroom King. (B)

Equip Aragorn with the Mushroom Crown.

You will find the Mushroom Crown in Free Play in “The Black Rider”. Once you have it, select the Mushroom Crown from your Treasure Trove and equip it to unlock this trophy.

Note that you must use the default Aragorn (unlocked after the “Weathertop” level) and not the Gondor Armour or Royal Armour variation of him, as the trophy will not unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/0ED.jpg Worth greater than the Shire. (B)

Dress a character completely in treasure items.

This trophy will be easy at the end of the game once you have completed your collectable run-through and have access to all the normal and mithril Treasure items. There are four body parts you need to dress: the head, body, arms and feet. The items I equipped to unlock this trophy were:

  • Mithril Headdress
  • Mithril Climbing Boots
  • Calcium Armour
  • Mithril Boxing Gloves

To equip Treasure items, hold :circle: and choose “Treasure Trove”, and then select the item you want with :cross: and your character will automatically equip it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/D5E.jpg One does not simply... (B) (H)

Walk into Mordor.

This trophy is very simple. Just fast travel to the Black Gate and walk through the gate into Mordor with any character. Walk towards Mount Doom and this trophy will unlock.

If for some reason this doesn't work, you can try the alternative route. That is, Fast Travel to Minas Morgul and walk through Shelob's Lair and Cirith Ungol into Mordor.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/71C.jpg That still only counts as one! (B) (H)

Defeat an Oliphaunt as Legolas.

This trophy is unmissable in single player, and can only be missed in co-op if Player 2 is Legolas and kills the Oliphaunt, so make sure Player 1 is always Legolas. This trophy will unlock at the end of the Battle of Pelennor Fields level. You will have to shoot arrows into the slots on the Oliphaunt’s leg with :square:, and swing up with Legolas. Take out the enemies on the platform and press :circle: when prompted to take down the Oliphaunt.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1535/588.jpg It won't be that easy! (B) (H)

During 'Prologue', jump into the fires of Mount Doom as Isildur.

This trophy can only be earned in Story Mode or Free Play during the opening level, “Prologue”. When you reach the Cracks of Doom (the area inside Mount Doom with the silver platform), jump off the platform into the lava with Isildur. I recommend doing this on your first playthrough to avoid having to play through the whole level again later.

Thanks to CMX4 for providing the following screenshot of the area you need to jump off:

Craft the Fire and Ice Bows. (Single Player Only)

The Fire and Ice Bows are Mithril Items that give extra powers to your bow attacks. To unlock this trophy, first find the Blacksmith Design Recipe for the Mithril Fire Bow in the “Helm’s Deep” level and the Mithril Ice Bow in the “Cirith Ungol” level. Then, go to the Blacksmith in Bree and craft the items, which cost 8 mithril bricks each.

Guide upload completed! Any response/questions/constructive feedback would be much appreciated :)

I was planning on including boss strategies, but most of them are really simplistic so didn't think it was necessary. If they are wanted though, I will add them in.

I'm going to do a full editorial sweep tomorrow and then hopefully submit it then.

Thanks for taking the time to do a trophy guide, I'll keep an eye on it when I'll start the game. It looks good. ;)

Thanks Alex! I really enjoyed it, as I'm a huge LOTR fan and also of the LEGO games. Slightly too many collectables for my liking, and jumping is still dodgy at best, but apart from that I have no other gripes :)

Final editorial sweep of guide has been made and this has now been submitted to the GT. Please let me know if you've spotted any errors!

A beautifully well written guide here Darth. I liked your roadmap, much thought was put into it.

How did you get those fonts which breaks up guide? EG: 'Walkthrough'

As for the game itself, I have a soft spot for lego games, they are fun and are a much welcomed change. I played lego Batman and they had voice acting in it for the first time, thoroughly enjoyed it.

I actually need to watch the films first, before I attempt this game, as I am sure there are spoilers in the game. Yes to confirm, I have not seen Lord of Rings!!!

Anyway, when I do get round to this game, then for sure I will use this guide. Well done :applause:

Haha you need to do it ASAP! Definitely enjoy the movies for what they are before you play the game's shortened and contrived version of the story :)

As for the fonts and sub-headers, I got my good friend GlennThomas to make them, along with the banner. Upload them to Photobucket or another image hosting site and then copy the URL :)

Thanks for the positive feedback! Would definitely recommend the game, only after you've seen the movies of course ;)

AMAZING guide & roadmap, Darth_Krid!

I'm about to give my copy of the game to my friend so he can earn his first platinum, I'll give give him directions here as well as have him sign up with you as a referral!

This game was very frustrating for me, which is rare. If only I had just bought the game a few weeks later I would've had this to go by :p My friend is horrible at just about any game, so I know this will be something he appreciates.

That being said, the reason I bought it as soon as I could was because I love LoTR so much! So for those who haven't seen the films before playing this, do so! It will make it that much more fun to play!

Ah thanks mate, that'd be great :) Have you got the (P) yet?

The only frustrating parts for me were ones that required intricate jumping. Climbing to the top of Isengard for the mithril brick and to buy Saruman was a nightmare, as was the whole Dead Marshes level. The amount of times I heard Gollum shout "Hurry Hobbitses, this way!" because I'd jumped into the swamp and not over the platforms to him nearly drove me to insanity :p

Great guide dude! Was waiting for this before I tackled the game for 100% :D!

I have one question pertaining to the glitched trophies. I do remember that all the trophies required for the 100% trophy were glitched due to the freezes, I now read that this has been solved? So are these trophies still gltiched or are they solved?

Once again, awesome guide mate! :applause:

Yes, the glitched trophies regarding collectables are all fixed, although It won't be that easy has still been causing problems. This isn't as serious though as you can start a new game to try it again within 10 minutes.

I have been meaning to update the guide since the new patch came out, but the last 3 days has been hectic and I've been travelling a lot due to Christmas, so I'll get to doing that now.

Thanks very much for your praise, I appreciate it!
