Introduction:

Welcome to the world of Lego games! This new installment of Lego franchise makes us jump right into the tales of J.R.R. Tolkien's most famous book collection. Everything a LOTR fan found in the movies and books can be find here, adapted to younger audiences and to be playable. Like Lego Batman 2, this game also features dialogues, taken right from the movies, and they work great to provide a more impressive experience.

As for the gameplay, it's quite simple and straightforward. You should have no challenges with finding collectibles and going through the story. There are no missable trophies, but you will need to repeat some stages at least twice to get everything for 100% completion.

The multiplayer games are done via Ad-Hoc mode only, which means you will need two PS Vita devices in order to play multiplayer with a friend. Luckily enough, there's not a single multiplayer trophy.

There are some differences between this version and the PS3 version, as there are no minikits to find and some character's abilities are changed or removed - but, in essence, it's a true Lego game.

Controls in this game are quite simple and intuitive. The only instance that deserves mention is to change characters while in Free-play mode. You need to touch the shield icon on the screen while changing characters with :vital: or :vitar: in order to access the characters screen.

Walkthrough:

Step 1 - Play through the game:

Plain and simple. Just head direct into story mode and play it to its end. You don't need to focus too much on finding collectibles or getting true adventurer on every stage, but you will get some if you want, as there are some pretty easy to find that doesn't require any other character aside the ones you're playing. If you do, you can return to any previous unlocked hub and try to unlock red bricks from characters, by delivering the said treasure (but keep in mind that some characters require more than one and, seeing that it's almost impossible to get all of the required ones on the first playthrough, I would save it for later) - See Collectibles Guide for more information about treasures and characters linked to them.

Also, take note to win all minigames when you are on certain hubs. See trophy description below.

Step 2 - Free-play mode (all adventure stages + "True Adventurer"):

When you complete a stage, this one will be available to be played in free-play mode. This mode lets you select your character at will, to fit whatever situation you need to overcome in order to get collectibles. To do this, you need to press :vital: or :vitar: and touch the Shield icon at the end of the character's line. You will need to play through every stage again in order to find all character profiles, treasures and unlock all characters. If you didn't get "True Adventurer" in a said level, now is the time. Also, during your run, buy all hints you can (they are cheap, only 500 studs each). You really need to buy them in order to get 100% of the game.

The first thing you should do is getting the x2 multiplier red brick. There are two ways you can do this:

  1. Head direct to "The Dark Ride on the Road" warp point and play the stage on free-play, looking for treasures. You'll find Old Took's Diamonds during this run. Deliver it to Paladin Took and take the first red brick you'll get, x2 stud multiplier (that costs 100,000 to unlock), or;
  2. You can try and use the code 1F5YH2 to unlock it right away. But I must warn you: this code didn't work for me.

This step must be done anytime you want after you've unlocked Gimli.

You can complete any stage in any way you want. Clear all stages and get "True Adventurer" in anyone you didn't get before. To se if you have collected all collectibles avaliable in a certain stage, press Start at any time. You'll see the information about how many collectibles you've gotten, and how many are left.

Tip of the Day: Always have Gimli as one of your characters. This way, you can use his Bullrush attack (hold :square:) to travel quickly through stages and hubs, saving you time. Just make sure you don't head to walls, rocks and other hard (indestructible) structures.

Step 3 - Deliver all treasure + all collectibles on Hubs

No you have all treasure, you can start going through hubs, and delivering them to their respective owners. You'll get red bricks by doing this.

Now, try to buy as many stud multipliers as you can, in order to acumulate studs and buy all other items on the shop.

Step 4 - Specific Trophies + Clean Up:

Once you've bought everything, now is the time to get all specific trophies. If you have missed anything at the end of free-play mode, also now it's time to return to the said level and collect what you've forgotten. There are some collectibles that take a while to figure out how to get, but nothing too hard.

Collect every collectible.

In order to get this trophy you will need to collect every collectible in this game. You don't need to actually buy them for this specific trophy (although you will need to for "There and Back Again"). There are:

  • 34 treasures;
  • 15 red bricks.

Red bricks and characters sheets are only found at Hubs and, in order to get red bricks, you will need to deliver treasures asked by characters in hubs. Please refer to There's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. trophy for more information.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1784/56B.jpg There and back again. (G)

Get 100%. (Single Player Only)

To get 100% in the game, you will need to complete the game on story mode, get True Adventurer in every level, find all collectibles, deliver all treasures AND buy every character, red brick and hint in shops. If you are struggling with few Lego studs, you can replay "The Bridge of Khazad-dûm" chapter, with at least x2, x4 and x6 red bricks active and, at the end of the level when you are falling, try grabbing as much blue and purple Lego studs as you can (multiplied by, now, 48).

For more information, see the Collectibles Guide.

Collect all the Character Profiles.

See "My precious!" trophy for more information

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1784/503.jpg Not with 10,000 men could you do this... (G) :tagcollectible:

Unlock all characters. (Single Player Only)

In order to get this trophy, you only need to find all character's tokens scattered throughout the world. You don't need to buy them. You can see how many character's tokens you've collected in a said location, as well as how many that location has, by pressing :start:.

See "My Precious" and "There and Back Again" for more information.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1784/462.jpg I think I'm quite ready for another adventure! (S)

Achieve True Adventurer in every level. (Single Player Only)

There are a set number of studs you need to collect in order to get True Adventurer to pop up at the screen. Everytime you die, you lose all studs if you are below 1100, or 1100 (a blue and a golden stud) if you are above this number. However, after you've gotten True Adventurer, this status won't disappear, even if you lose all your studs.

To make things easier, you can buy multiplier red bricks. They come as x2, x4, x6, x8 and x10. The best thing is, like every other Lego game I've played, they stack, so at the end you'll have a x3840 multiplier.

Here's a list of all adventure levels you need to complete, as well as how many studs you'll need to get True Adventurer:

  • The Last Battle of the Alliance: 15,000
  • The Dark Rider on The Road: 20,000
  • The Camp at the Weathertop: 30,000
  • Moria: Balin's Tumb: 20,000
  • Moria: Bridge of Khazad-dûm: Didn't take note (will fill later)
  • The Skirmish at Amon Hen: 30,000
  • The Taming of Gollum: 30,000
  • Tracking the Hobbits: 35,000
  • The Battle of Helm's Deep: 20,000
  • The Paths of The Dead: 50,000
  • Shelob's Lair: 30,000
  • The Battle of Pelennor Fields : 40,000
  • Journey's End: 40,000

Note that you can't get True Adventurer on Hubs.

If you didn't get True Adventurer before, and started to make a run on Free-play mode using stud multipliers, as soon as you see True Adventurer popping up on the screen, you can quit the stage, and you will still get it.

Another cool trick is: if you just need "True Adventurer" in a level, try getting some studs, then die and, with stud multiplier red bricks activated, get the studs you've lost. They will be multiplied and, in the end, you can get "True Adventurer" without even need to cross the first part of the stage.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1784/131.jpg Hobbits really are amazing creatures. (G)

Complete all the HUB mini games.

You only need to complete all hub mini games once to unlock this. They are:

* Chicken catch, at The Shire;

* Musical notes, at Rivendell;

* Archery, at Lothlorien;

* Musical notes, at Lothlorien;

* Horse Masters Attack, at Rohan;

* Mark of the Ranger, at Minas Tirith;

* Archery again, at Mordor.

Once you complete all, the trophy should unlock. You will surely get this trophy while going for "There and Back Again", as you need the collectibles that are prizes for beating them.

Hidden and Misc trophies

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1784/9CE.jpg And away he goes, Precious! (S)

Use Smeagol to defeat Gollum when Gollum is the buddy.

You'll get Gollum when you finish "The Taming of Gollum", and you will get Smeagol as a character token (80,000 studs). Simple put one character as Smeagol, other as Gollum and use Smeagol to smash Gollum to a rub of bricks. The trophy should unlock immediately afterwards. Additionally, you can use this nice tip:

go to osgiliath hub and gollum will be your buddy and then you can select smeagol to defeat him

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1784/1B7.jpg What about second breakfast? (S)

Complete Weathertop in Free Play.

The description is very clear. After you've completed Weathertop on Story mode, it will be available to be played in Free-play mode. It can be accessed from Bree, at the far north after you enter the gate from the Shire (simply follow the road straight). Once you are given the choice between story or free-play mode, choose free-play and COMPLETE the stage (you need to reach its end - getting out of it without reaching its end does not count). The trophy should unlock at the status screen.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1784/DC1.jpg That still only counts as one! (S)

Defeat an Oliphaunt as Legolas.

Can not be missed. When you're playing "The Battle at The Pelennor" once you shift to Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, as they arrive at the battlefield, simply head up and eliminate every orc you see (or not, your choice). You will then see an Oliphaunt blocking the way. Use Legolas's bow to shoot its knee, swing on the bar, and jump on a support, then use it to grab the rope. Climb up it and, when you are inside the tower-like structure, head left and onto the plank. Automatically, Legolas will jump onto the oliphaunt's head and shoot it. The trophy pops up immediately afterwards.

http://tinyurl.com/cjhnoeg One does not simply walk into Mordor... (S) (H)

Simply walk into Mordor. (Single Player Only)

You need to complete the game on story mode first. Then, when you are given control over your character, press Select, enter the World map (by touching the "Map" icon on the bottom right) and select The city of Osgiliath. Now, the gate in front of "Shelob's Lair" warp point will be opened. Simply enter it (it reads "To the land of Mordor") and the trophy should pop immediately.

http://tinyurl.com/d5bsde9 The last laugh. (G) (H)

Use Tom Bombadil's laugh to destroy Sauron in Free play.

To get Tom Bombadil, enter "The Black Rider on the Road" using the warp point in the Shire. Then, select free-play and when you get to the bridge, destroy some flowers at the the low edge of the road. You should see a soft spot where you will need to interact with :circle: using Aragorn (any). You will be directed to go back to another soft spot, and then to a little grassed area. Use Sam (any) to plant something there and, once it blossoms, use a wizard to open it up. You should get Tom Bombadil now.

To get Sauron, enter "Journey's End" using the warp point in Mordor. Select free-play mode. Then, after the battle at the Black Gate, when you get to a place where you need to use Sam (elven rope) to pull some structures from the wall in front of you (the right one will disassemble with the fall), head right and use Merry to fish a mordor chest. Then, use Aragorn (Anduril or Royal armor) to open it up. You should get Sauron now. Head to any hub, buy both of them, select one character as Tom and the other as Sauron and, as Tom, press :circle: next to Sauron and it's done.

Nice guide! There is one thing I saw wrong on the roadmap, it suggest to get the molten statue in the shire for the X2 multiplier, but it's actually Took's Diamonds in the shire that gives you the X2.

No biggie, but thought I would let you know.

Thanks again for the awesome guide:applause:

Also, for "The Last Laugh" trophy, to buy both Tom Bombadill AND Sauron, it costs 1 million studs each.

It says in the guide, 1.8 million for both.

Again, these are just little un important things, but thought I would let you know.

In fact, as I am making a collectibles guide now, I've realized there are more things to correct. I should have everything done by friday.

Edit: I have revised this guide, and added some information, as well as corrected some wrong ones according to feedback received.

Small question about the Smeagol taking out Gollum ordeal. With what you say, as soon as you unlock Gollum as a character, does Smeagol actually become available to buy? As in, his character token doesn't need to be found?

Just asking, as I haven't checked or anything like that (my Vita needs to be charged right now is all, so I can check it right now XD). That, and I'm more or less just going through the story mode right now too....just went out of my way to get the 2x Red Multiplier Brick to make things a bit easier at the very least.

I cannot believe i am asking a question already regarding this game, but yes i admit it, i am stuck.....

I think i am at a boss, where i have him trapped after he wrapped his chain around a silver column. I use the guy that can double jump and get up to a platform, but i then cannot change the guy so that i can proceed.

It says "out of reach"....

I know that is a rubbish description of where i am, but what the hell am i missing?

Edit: Skip that i've done it.

What is "PSN Points"?

These are the total value of points necessary for you to level up your PSN profile (you can see statistics about it on your PS3). Once you reach a certain point level, you will level up.

Think of it as gaming XP.

Also, I have made a little update on this guide, with received feedback.

Love this game, there wasnt any problem platinuming it either, just make sure you dont spend your studs until you get a multiplier - that would be my only warning.

Loved it also. The only thing I have to complain is Vita is a way more powerful machine than 3DS, but they just have done a port from it. What a shame, if you ask me.
