What's with everybody and the knife?

Seriously, everywhere I check it seems the knife is the ultimate weapon in Killzone 2. GameFAQs tells you to use it non-stop; even the guide here tells you to use it while attempting to beat the game on elite. I'm currently at the last mission on veteran and I dare not run at enemies, slashing them with the knife. So how in the hell can you run and knife everybody on Elite? It's nonsense.

Of course, there are many spots where the knife tactic is pretty useless. However, if you ever find yourself up agains five or less Helghast, you can memorize their location and knife away. This can be very effective. But yes, you are not to exclusively use the knife.

Well, when against radecs goons, you can run up to the bits where they jump off and knife them before they can even move away, thats when it becomes a awesome tactic .

yeah at long range, but what if you have 3 or 4 hellgahst in your face just slash em up

Because using your knife will spare you from many deaths caused by untimely reloads, especially in the second checkpoint where shock troopers will eat you alive.

To the OP,

I understand your concern, as I shared your skepticism of the knife tactic in the past. The first time I went through the last level, I did so on Veteran, and even then I did not use the knife.

However, when you play through the campaign on Elite, you will find that you will have to unload almost a full clip seemingly in order to drop an enemy, while it takes very few hits to kill you.

That's when I got acquainted with my friend "the knife". By the time I reached the last level on Elite I was a full-fledged believer. Closing the gap on your targets and killing them quickly sure beats the hell out of spending so much time getting shot at, running for cover, spraying almost a full clip, getting flanked, etc.

Anyways, point is, once you play on Elite you will understand this tactic!
