EDIT: Played Im@s on the xbox 360 and got S Rank producer and some other achievements, so I'm quite familiar with the gameplay and wiki sites.

The Best-version is interesting, since I have been in Japan in April and I never saw this game used under 5,000 yen (unless I've looked at the wrong places). So 3,800 yen is a very good deal for this game.

There are much harder Japanese games to plat and even play for people with 0% Japanese knowledge; this game is relatively easy.

It is not required to understand the story at all to play through this game. For earning the you have to delve into the gameplay though. Since you have to do 9 playthroughs for the anyway, take your time learning the gameplay.
You can find information on gameplay and sequences in the Appendix thread. If you are really worried about the story, you can watch subbed YouTube videos or the anime.
