I know. I know.. You're likely going to roll your eyes as here is just another pathetic guy that can not beat HTA 3. The best time I've ever posted was 6:46.24 and that is with using the sword launch technique and with having looked at all gamefaqs, videos and tip imaginable. I've tried for over 3 weeks now and the best I can do as stated above is almost six and a half minutes. Every time I manage to kill the Torso weak spot with over 3 minutes remaining ironically I fall down when trying to get on the bracelet to climb. Every time I skip the torso and go after the head and arm, I have less than 2 minutes left. I honestly feel like I am one rather pathetic gamer. I've gotten every trophy other than Maticulous Item Collector. I've plowed my way past all other 15 Colossus.. But HTA 3.. I really feel like I just can not do it.
I've been considering paying someone else to do it for me but no one I know has the game so that was a failure in itself. And I'm afraid to offer someone money to log in on my name and use my transferred save file to clear him, save and send the save back for fear I'd be breaking the Terms of Service.. The only thing I have left I can ask now is.. What is that "Perfect Grip" thing people talk of on the head? I can get... 2-3 stabs before he rag doll tosses me as always. I can get maybe 2-3 stabs max before being rag dolled on the arm as well. On the torso, I get maybe 4-5 stabs (2 full and 2-3 half stabs) then he throws me around like a cheap suit as well. I'm no good at torso to bracelet and back moves so I just feel like I'm at a total loss. Last edited by Sabre2k2; 11-14-2011 at 02:53 AM. |

You my friend are not a pathetic gamer. Gaius is just plain annoying and hard as hell. AND cannot be beaten with the means he is meant to.
I recommend you don't pay anyone to get the kill for you, it feels all the much sweeter when you finally get him! I realise you have read many guides and watched videos to get a good strategy but I try to explain a sureshot way to kill this guy. Remember, that even if you do everything right, some slight insignificance can throw your balance off and the run is ruined. But you should know it by now. OK, to the beginning. When the Colossus is walking towards you, what I did was shooting his tummy like crazy. He loses some health if you hit directly to the vital. It's not much but every little helps. When he has approached you a little, run towards him and for the disc in the ground. Remember to jump while he stabs the ground behind you. Next, stand beside to the disc so he doesn't hit it when swinging towards you. If you feel comfortable with it, you can try to shoot couple of arrows here. After down comes the sword, roll away and position yourself for the sword jump. I got the impression from your post, that you can do the sword jump, yes? This jump is damn hard and it gave me most trouble most of the time. After leaping to the bracelet at his hand note this: He begins to do the arm lowering animation. During this I always tried to get 'round his arm and jump behind him to the waist platform and begin stabbing the stomach vital. REMEMBER! When you get to this point, never ever miss-stab the vital. If you fail to hit the vital, all your hard work goes down the drain because the Colossus starts to wiggle himself like crazy. After killing the tummy vital don't try to jump to the bracelet right away. It's possible, but you can fail very easily, 'cause the Colossus moves his arm away from his torso. Wait patiently for the arm to come closer and go for the jump. After that you should be seeing the arm lowering animation again. You have to hurry up his arm and for the head. Position yourself at the bottom half of the vital, almost at the neck of the Colossus and begin to stab. Again, make sure you hit the vital! The arm lowering animation should be gone after some stabs so run for the arm again. The animatin should begin again when you reach the shoulder. Return to the head and kill it permanently. (BTW, for the head you can try the "perfect grip" which should trigger if you push R1 to grab and almost simultaneusly after that. Personally I haven't gotten it against Gaius, but managed to pull it off with other Colossi)Now, take a deep breath, for you are almost there. There is the easiest part left. For a long time I despaired with the arm vital, 'cause I tried to do it legit and ran out of grip everytime. What you need to do is the arm lowering animation trick again. After killing the head, run for the shoulder and trigger the animation. You know you did right when he lifts his left arm so the vital is straight for you to stab. Just strike it a couple times and you're DONE!! It may saound easy this way, but believe me it's not. It's a sureshot way to kill him, but to get everything right requires some luck and skill. Practice the parts that are hardest for you and when you can do them constantly, begin the real run. Last but not least: When you finally beat him, SAVE, SAVE, SAVE! Best of luck to you! There are MANY that feel your pain, but you will eventyally get him! |

Wow, thanks to you I have now posted a time of 5:33.xx A major improvement over my previous time. I could have been faster but I let myself get mislead. I did not fully finish off the head. It had 2 stabs left. So I likely could have posted around a 5:10.xx I'm excited to actually know I'm honestly getting faster. One of the biggest things that went wrong was taking too long on the Torso. Instead of the typical 3 minutes I can have, I only had 2 minutes 30 seconds left. So between taking too long on the torso, and not finishing the head, I can easily have cleared it on time. You're a true inspiration and you know how to well word things for people like me to understand it. I shall now with renewed determination and inspiration, go in for the kill.

One thing I learned after almost 5 days of tries and finally defeating this son fo a bitch is that there no "one sureshot way" to kill Gaius. What works for one person might not (and most likely will not) work for you. What you have to do is experiment. Combine different strategies to find one way that works FOR YOU. Try mixing and matching strategies. Don't follow just one. All the tips people give you are legit, you just have to find those that will make most sense to you.
Also, I don't know about others but I never managed to perfect grip Gius's head, just couldn't. It seems near impossible even though I perfect gripped other Colossi multiple times (including # 6 and 15). In my experience though I noticed that it's easier to execute a perfect grip if you're trying to do a jumping attack. Several times when I tried to do the jumping attack I actually perfect gripped as a side effect. So maybe you should try that. However I should warn you that Gaius's stupid head is extremely small and you might fall if you try to jump around. Last edited by purifico; 11-14-2011 at 08:56 AM. |
