I've made a couple attempts at the 2 hour speed run, but so far have been unsuccessful. I got close the last time, but I could use some tips on how to shave off some time. Any suggestions?

I can't imagine they would as you time is saved to the file. So I would assume that when you load your game the time would start back up from when you saved it.
As for the videos, I don't have the patience to watch someone do their thing and then mimic that. I'd rather get some general tips of time saving tricks.

From my first playthrough, I noticed a couple locations where you can speed things up by leaving Yorda at one location and run by oneself. Also a trick I learned is to jump often than run. A double jump will speed things up but I think it's risky at same time you will jump into the abyss.. |

I haven't got the trophy yet but I should have it here pretty soon. Best tip I can give is know the game inside and out. It's important to know the places where you can leave Yorda behind and drop off ledges instead of going down long staircases and paths.
You can figure all this out through trial and error on your own or you can watch some speed run videos. Just observing a few of the big shortcuts could be enough to reach the goal time for you. Also, always jump up staircases and don't fight enemies if you don't have to. In case you make a big mistake, save your game but not too often... sitting on the couch can eat up a few seconds. Pausing the game also pauses the timer. |

I got the trophy. I tried to do it myself and just took a peek at the first part of a video guide. I soon realized it is almost impossible to figure out everything by myself. It will take a loooong time to find all the good tricks and spots.
Now even with a video guide, it's still not easy. One mistake will send you back to an old save. I finished it with around 1h53m |

I saved about 8 times, nowhere close to beating the world record or anything so I think saving more often is not bad idea. Some benches must be missed because they are out of the way for shortcuts. If a bench is right by the path, I say use it. A lot other things are more important than this . i.e, the cutscenes (skip them as quickly as I can) and the battles (only two battles are mandatory including the final boss fight).
