kargorath
I'll give my thoughts, since no one else has. Might help somebody to decide whether to get it or not. Story: Non-existent, it's a sports game. Career mode could have felt a lot more like you were starting from scratch and therefore more involved, but it doesn't, you start off able to play in all the Grand Slams. Could have put in a lot more effort here. Gameplay: Anyone for tennis? You play tennis! Points against individual opponents can tend to follow a set pattern. Luckily there are different types of players, but there are only 4 types in all, so the patterns can get a bit repetitive. I play tennis and watch a fair amount on TV, I don't think the game really captures all of the nuances of the real thing. For example, in real life tennis coming to the net is a risky strategy, particularly on a clay court, and many opponents will get passed down the line or crosscourt. However, on EAGST2 the only way to get past an opponent at the net is to lob pretty much. Also, I didn't feel like I could ever get the better of an opponent from the back of the court, your player will always move closer to the net to be able to finish things off, which again isn't true of real tennis. 5/10. Controls: Controls are tight, sometimes your player seems to stutter in his/her movement, but I'm pretty sure that is the user's fault. 8/10. Graphics: Things look quite good. Nothing overly spectacular. 7/10. Sound (Gameplay): Commentary gets repetitive after two matches, plus Pat Cash's voice is really annoying. Shot/crowd/clay sliding sounds are pleasant enough. 4/10. Sound (Music): I think there are 3 or 4 songs. They are all abominations. 2/10. Wow Factor: It has all the four properly licensed Grand Slams, including Wimbledon, which is awesome. Plus, there are some classic players, which adds a touch of class. Sampras, Becker, Edberg, Stich, Borg, McEnroe to name some. However, I couldn't help but notice those missing. Agassi, Wilander, Lendl, Courier, Laver etc. Those are just the men. Still it retains the wow factor imo. 8/10. Replay Value: Once I plat this I won't play it again. But, if you like playing friends online you could conceivably play this for a long time. 9/10. Rent or Buy this Game?: Buy. It's pretty cheap these days. How fun to Plat?: I haven't platted yet, but when I do I know it'll be about 4/10. Your Personal Verdict & Your Final Rating: I think EA aimed to make this more like a simulation, but I think it would have benefitted from being more arcade-y. 6/10.
