It's a bit easier, and definately better. Unless you prefer laying down on the couch like I do

driving with a wheel will improve your times, and also give you a better gaming experience (if the one you pick has force feedback)

and if money is no problem, order a wheelstand pro while you're at it

Buy Logitech G27. I have one and i got the platinum trophy, its an amazing wheel, it made the game a lot easier for me.
