something to think about:
we have reached the point in console gaming where money has taken over over quality and creativity. i remember the days when i was still playing on my pc and those problems with running a game smoothly and patching multiple times really annoyed me. i have been happy to have a console where games came out and played perfectly for the most part, no issues. video games came a long way since then and now stand as a major entertainment product, popular and accepted. it started not too long ago that publishers were releasing games that have to be patched on day one because of quality issues in many ways, further patches not impossible. furthermore, the timeframe to release a game is so sensitive now with all those big games that steal the money from the market that quality assurance is sometimes neglected. i feared this day would come and now it is upon us. what are people doing who do not have an internet connection? your thoughts? I don't mind them, but I REALLY want a background download option for them. Thanks to the joys of unstable ISP speeds I no longer have a regular fast speed so the other day it took 3 hours to download the 1.7gig patch for BF:BC2 because I lost the system data in a YLOD.
Also right at this moment I want to download the Tiger Woods 11 patch to take part in the 12v12 trophy but its quoting me anywhere from 2-3 hours for a measly 250mb patch because Saturday night my net speeds are very low. So right now I really need a way of downloading patches without locking my system out for the hours it takes, I'd rather be playing |

I don't mind them but the less a game need them, the better it is.

what a useless thread. Obviously if i pay full price for a game I want it to be great out of the packaging but some games I kind of expect to have problems in the beginning like Black Ops I figured the servers would suck for a bit. I like patches if they make the game better but if you hype the shit out a game, delay it etc. i want my game to be good right out of the box. Either way, I want my game to be good.

Well really it comes down to money>quality. Besides indie developers and maybe you'd like to think Team Ico, no one cares about anything except making money. With the "necessity" for multiplayer, it is so commonly unfinished that they just have to patch it and because they can they decide hell we'll just worry about it later.
This is another reason why this is the worst generation in gaming history. Besides the issue of originality, they are shafting the consumer more than ever. Its sad when a marquis game like Fallout New Vegas is filled with bugs. The only games I really trust this generation that I'm getting a solid, finished product every time are first party games on the Wii. Mario and Zelda have always been trustworthy games. That is why they've stayed around so long, they have always provided quality. We should really revert back to the 16-bit era when games looked great (yes, they look better than any modern game. 16-bit games have so much charm.) and products were finished. |
