Yellow light

Yeah, I got the illustrious Yellow Light of Death to rape my PS3. I've seen some mention of it on forums and whatnot. Don't know how to deal with it though. I turn the console on, the light goes Green > Yellow> Flashing Red. That whole dealy. I heard it had something to do with overheat. I've also read it has something to do with the HDD. So, what?

Edit: I think it is 170

They wanted to charge me 170 bucks to replace the laser. I bought the laser off Ebay for 70 and fixed it myself .

The warranty expired. No moneyz. Not that I want it replaced. I fear they would send me a 40GB model or something, sans backwards compatibility and fewer USB ports... which I use that stuff often.

They replace the parts, not the entire console. Alternatively, you could do what Pooshonmyshoos did and buy the part and replace it yourself.

Sony will send a PS3 within around 7-10 days id say,
ive seen a few people i know go through this.
Dont know if its different in the US or other places but i know the UK law goes along the lines of
..the product must last a certain amount of time that justifies the price...
So in other words if you paid £400 for a PS3 im damned if its made to only last 12-18 months,they may argue their case and try to charge you but dont let them,even if the warranty has run out,stick to it and youll have your PS3 sorted in a short space of time.
They will not give you a lesser model back by the way,just make sure you stipulate you want the same model back
Getting your disc back seems to be another matter though,dont bet on getting it back.

Dont be an idiot. Just call Sony as advised and see what they can do for you. Dont you think attemting to play around with it might damage it furhter ?
