This may be wishful thinking but will there be anyway to transfer PC characters to your PS3 account once it comes out? And for that matter, how does an mmorpg compare on a console to PC? I've only ever played mmorpgs on PC so I'm really cautious/curious to know how different/better/worse it is. I still haven't made up my mind if I should buy FFXIV for PC or wait for PS3 version, or get both. Hopefully you guys can help me out a bit.
To put it simply: Are MMORPGs significantly worse on consoles? Will characters be able to transfer through different accounts? And since it seems to be run on cross-system servers, will starting march/2011 be a bad idea if I don't want to be left behind? I know I have a lot of questions but any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Q2: I found this article and if I understand this part correctly I believe you can log onto any platform with your characters. Eorzeapedia: Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV, FF14) News, Wiki, Forums, Community and more » Dengeki Games Vol. 7: Keep Your Name?! Question: Will PS3 beta testers and PC beta testers play on the same Worlds during the beta? Answer: We have no particular plans to separate by version. However, as the testing periods will be different, some Worlds might have more people playing on one particular platform than another. We do plan on making things like FFXI where you can log in with the same account from any platform. Q3: Depends, you are technically never behind on an MMORPG but with the fatigue system that I heard they are implementing it will be harder to gain levels quickly. But I also believe there will be a HUGE influx of people once the PS3 version comes out so there will be a whole community in the same boat as you. Hope this helps a little. |

I've seen FFXI once on a PS2 and I didn't like the gameplay very much. Maybe because I was too adapted to the PC version which I played for years.
Nevertheless I would always recommend a PC version. Not only because of the keyboard (which is available for PS3 as well...), but also the facts that you could switch between other applications. Being able to switch to an only wiki while playing or browsing while waiting was just huge. |

I have been playing the open beta on PC for a few days, and my computer is getting it's ass kicked.
It's such a pain in the ass. With consoles, you throw the game in, and play it. If you have a top of the line gaming PC, then it might be better for you to play it on PC, but if not, you will be waiting for the PS3 version to come out like me.

If you have a solid gaming PC, you'll probably get a better gaming experience on the PC for FFXIV. If it's mediocre, you'll probably wanna wait to play it on the PS3. This way you know you'll be able to enjoy it.
I'm going to be playing it on the PC, not just because it's going to be better quality that way, but because I don't wanna wait months to play this game!

you wont have different accounts. You'll have 1 account ran by SE which makes it possible to play the same character on both the PC and the ps3. I played XI for MANY years on the ps2 so i adapted to playing it with controller and using the keyboard to just chat with. And when i moved to the PC i just hooked up a controller to use too. However the PC will always be the better version only b/c of the fact that SOMEONE out there will be making mods for the game in some form. And the quality ie the res of the game will always be better on a pc if you have a good enough one of course. But to put it simply... no playing XIV on the ps3 will NOT be significantly worse than the PC. And like someone else said there will be alot of ppl joining on the ps3 release so you will not be behind. And to be honest it might be a good thing to wait for the ps3 release. Cause most of the bugs that us PC users will be running into for the first month or 2. You guys wont have to worry about.
