Making this site more visually appealing.

So earlier I found myself actually cruising around on our sister site (x360a) and it randomly hit me, "Why does this site look better than ours?"

It actually took me a while to figure out, but I think I was able to hit the nail on the head once I realized that this site is lacking a few minor things when compared to the sister site that can go a long way visually.

So here's what I was able to gather when comparing both sites:

The icons that appear beside threads lack colour, both are dark and the PS logo just seems extremely dated to me. Where as the icons on x360a stand out to me, the colours are vibrant and the Xbox logo is actually appealing.

Colour isn't the only issue when it comes to icon's, but I also think it's a problem when it comes to the left and right columns of the site. PS3T: Dark, moody and depressing. X360A: Once again, vibrant and stands out. Much more appealing.

By now I'm sure you get my point, this site is damn dark. So I might as well offer some suggestions and see what the rest of the community thinks.

- Icons: We just experienced a visual revamp at the site, and along with that got a new logo. Why not use it? I'm sure we can replace this ugly thing:
with this new sexy beast:

- Colour Schemes: Above I noted how the main colour of the site is depressing and lacks colour, so I was wondering how hard it would be to implement simple colour themes to the site? Basically users would be able to choose the colour to appear on the left and right of the site (From preset colours possibly) and simply watch it load to fill the left and right columns.

- Coloured Text in "New Posts": This one was just a quick thought, but kind of goes with my whole point in the idea above. Perhaps we would be able to change the colour of the text that appears on threads when we check "New Posts" For those confused, I mean this coloured text:



That's basically my two cents on how I think the site can improve visually, let me know what you guys think.

I like the current icons, but the logo would work really well. Other than that, I find the site as visually appealing as x360a and nicer, as I'm not a fan of green, but I know who would love that colour scheme (Massive Berry :P)

I actually think this site looks 100 times better than the Xbox one. The puke green colour scheme over there isn't really easy on the eye, way too gaudy or something. Although the new icon you suggest looks good, I like the ones we have already too. Just my opinions on this It wouldn't be the most important thing in my life when all is said and done..

I agree with that. The current logo beside each thread looks pretty stale. I think changing it to the newer PS3T logo would look much nicer, along with the logo beside the URL at the top of the browser. I still like the black sidebars though.

Stands out is a bad thing for a background. It's just the background: it's supposed to sit in the back and be quiet so we can focus on the important content. I also don't find anything "dark, moody, and depressing" about the gray color. Would you rather go back to nice chunks of super bright red that blind your eyes? It certainly would be vibrant and it'd stand out... For all the wrong reasons.

I agree with the thread icons though, I wouldn't shed any tears if the weird PS logo icons went bye-bye.

I agree with this. I think the 360 site is too bright

I feel the same way, I like our darker-colored design. Bright layouts kinda hurt my eyes, though I do have rather sensitive eyes as far as bright color schemes go.

If it ever gets changed, I certainly hope this color scheme could still be set as default.

I 100% prefer this colour scheme compared to our old one. The fact we've only just changed aswell probably means no one will entertain the thought of re-colouing again so soon.

I agree with replacing the logo. However, the colour scheme isn't worth changing as it has already been changed recently.

It would be nice if the links could be replaced with headers though. Example - Trophies Seeing as how the Guides page has headers.
