So in the previous generation of consoles I chose the xbox over the ps2 and missed out a ton, but made up for that by getting a ps3 with b/c off craigslist it sadly overheated and I bought a nice sleek ps3 slim and still running smooth *knock on wood*. I remember enjoying playing halo 2 on xbox and all the fun I had playing with friends and my brothers. So my question to you fellow gamers is that should I buy the 360 at this point in time where it's super cheap or rather wait for the next generation of consoles presuming it comes out soon? If I do get the 360 will mostly play halo 3 and other exclusives and all.

No. Most games are released on both systems, most play (and look) just fine on both systems, and most of the important multimedia capabilities (Netflix, movie stores & DVD playback) are available on both, so unless you really want to play an exclusive series like Halo or Fable, you should be fine with just a PlayStation 3. Id just wait to get a 720.

Wanted to do the same thing about a year ago... I even put one of the newer black models on layaway at kmart. Then, I kept thinking... I could use all that money elsewhere! Bills, a bunch of PS3 games, new needs as they croped up. In the end... I couldnt do it... screw microsoft!

I'd have to say no as well. If this were 2010 and you wanted Halo Reach, 3 and ODST, then I would say yes (that's exactly what I did.)
Because we don't know if the Xbox Infinity (whatever it's called) will have backwards capability, there's no way to answer your question properly. You will enjoy it if you do buy it, that's for certain. |

Depends on your income. If you are loaded I'd say yes. If you are on an average income I'd say no to buying one new but yes if you can get a decent cheap one. If you are on a low income I'd say no (don't forget you'd aso have to factor in the cost of Gold).
I have both systems, and I do play mostly on the PS3. Still glad I've got my xbox though, it's nice to have a change every now and then. |

If you can get a cheap one go ahead! I actively play on both consoles and both have their merits. I personally think that shooter based games are far superior on the xbox360. And I will pretty much only play those on xbox. However, I do like gathering trophies and my friends list is MUCH smaller on the PS3 so I play RPGs, hack and slash, or adventure games it instead. An xbox slim 4gb should be fine, its a great system.

First question is really, monetary situation. I see you mentioned Halo 3. Are you going to play online / shell out $60 for a year subscription of Xbox Live Gold / shell out 'x' dollars each month to play online? 'cause obviously, unlike PSN, it costs money to play online for the 360.
Second question, for me at least, is exclusives / availability. Are there enough exclusives to justify this purchase now, with as big a catalog the 360 has? I was a 360 owner first, (family peer pressure rofl), and had it for two or three years before finally getting the PS3 (and the 360 collects dust...) -- but I couldn't justify either purchase until I had at least 'x' # of Exclusives I knew I couldn't get elsewhere *EQUAL* to the console cost. I'm sure that sounds really weird. * Not even sure I am explaining it properly! For me, that's my personal minimum, I need a console to have as many Exclusives that I actually WANT to play in terms of proper value comparison to the console itself (see: still don't own a Nintendo Wii). > Random idea of 360 Exclusives -- Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Star Ocean: The Last Hope (at the time / before it ported to PS3), Alan Wake, Mass Effect (before PS3 got ME2 / I don't include PC releases), etc. FROM MY POINT OF VIEW. Third, I think, comes down to personal time / investment / commitment. Will you actually play the 360 or keep continuously playing the 360, or is it just gonna collect dust? I got a real solid use out of mine for all these years, before switching to the PS3 as much, and there were plenty of 360 Exclusives I really enjoyed, so it's not as big a problem for me. But how about for you? Have you already played just about everything you want to play or will continue to play on the PS3, that you have no need to get the 360 for the sake of those games? Hopefully, this helps, and doesn't come off as anything short of trying to provide advice. The 360 is a fair console, but the PS3 has turned out the better choice already (in less than half the time) for everything above plus free online. Et cetera. (( * Trivial thought, but I'll throw it out there, too -- Are you looking to "double dip" trophies and achievements on both consoles / duplicate copies of each game? rofl. Just an idea. ))

Wow amazing feedback from all! Thank you so much for all the help! At first, I didn't think I was going to get that many responses, but you guys sure proved me wrong. I'll lurk on craigslist every now and then and if I get a bargain I will jump on it. Income at this moment is uncertain really haha. I'm just graduating from high school now and will go to university near home.
