Achievements vs Trophies

They're both worthless (even if they provide a discount or whatever, I have but if I buy something discounted, I consider it to have cost what I paid, not an increase in value for ), but I never did care for achievements. Trophies are better because it's like little awards for stuff, and you can see how many you have of each, like a shelf.

Achievements just give a number, it has no meaning behind it and with that number itself, you can't see how many you've earned.

Trophies definitely because you earn a wonderful reward for earning all the trophies in a retail game.... THE PLATINUM TROPHY ..... And also for the xbox, it just adds points, but not an achievement level, like the PS3...

i dont really know about achievements. i just know they are numbers. in my opinion they are pretty boring and useless, if you cant see which numbers and point belongs to which game.

i like to see which game sb likes(percentage of it's trophies) or which one is sb's favorite(platinum ). by seeing only point that came from earning achievements you cant see them. and that is the weak point of achievements.
on the other hand trophy system has a very weak point. it is worthless plat trophies in comparison with bronze or silver. as all of us know, your level goes up X percent no matter you won 1 plat or 12 bronze. i can get 12 bronze in every game(difficultly 1-10 ) very easy but i should work on a plat of a game with 3-4 difficulty.
this is the weak point of trophies. they should raise the point of plat trophy, for example to 300-400 or even 500!!

To the folks who prefer Xbox's achievement system or gamer score, well i have 262,770 gamer score points on the PS3 as noted by my YGC card. All Sony would need to do is implement a patch to incorporate the total points, but now is that truly necessary?

There you have it, PS3's trophy system dominants Xbox's ridiculous point system in every category! Sometimes it's good to be late than first with ideas and Sony proved that with their trophy system. Even though some of the earlier titles are lacking trophies, at least it's a better detailed approach to your gaming accomplishments. Btw i have an Xbox which only my ol' lady plays, which i rarely let her hook up.

I like both systems but the Trophy system i think is the better as you get the Platinum as an extra reward.

Same here. One of the things I like about the xbox is that the achievements pop right when you do what you needed to do. Trophies take a few seconds. I like ps3 way more.

Honestly, they both have their pros and cons.

The PS3 has the "tier" system which also shows other players how dedicated you are to "completing" your games, but at the same time the amount and quality of trophies in each game is very inconsistent.

Some games are riddled with Gold and Silver trophies (Legends of Wrestlemania), so they look more impressive than games with a more standard payload.

The Vita is already a trainwreck when it comes to trophy balance - you've got $15 downloadable games like Plants VS Zombies with 40+ trophies and a Platinum, and then you've got retail games like Lumines and Touch My Katamari which have the same number as Welcome Park.


Then there's the 360 - for every game, you know there's going to be a consistent amount of points that you can earn (until you factor in DLC add-ons, of course).

But at the same time, you can get a very high score just by renting a bunch of games for a day and completing the easy achievements. While it technically has platinums of a sort (in that you can check your profile and see which games you have 100% achievements on), I don't believe they're visible to the rest of the world.


And both system suffer from many games with trophies or achievements are so pointlessly easy, it's embarrassing to earn them. You could Platinum Tekken Hybrid in 3 hours if you wanted. If life was rated on a Trophy System, I'd have earned three Bronze today already for waking up, sitting in front of the keyboard, and pressing ten keys in succession without making a typo.
