As far as I can tell each game is loosely connected by being the same universe rather than being consecutive stories.

From having played Morrowind and the all the DLC from that game and playing Oblivion and all its DLC and coming to Skyrim I can say that you don't need to play the last games to get this one if you have played the last games you will get alot more out of the game when they talk about the older games or stuff ect.
So in short do you need to play the other games? No. But if you did it would help fill in story plots and books, side quest ect and give you a over all more filling story. |

I understood what was going on in the story and I have never played an TES game before. It. Basically has it's own story which is easy to follow

Oblivion was amazing when it was first out. Still is now. I would recommend it to any fan of Skyrim or any fan of RPGs. I put close to 120 hours into Oblivion on just about 2 characters.
You do see some references in Skyrim that make you go Ohhhh neat. Like I know I was fond of the Mythic Dawn having a museum in Skyrim...considering how big of a part they played in Oblivion. But if I hadn't played Oblivion that might of not of been a big deal to me. Only problem with Oblivion and this was my issue with ever getting on PS3...was the lack of Trophies. I always expected them to patch a trophy list in since the 360 had the achievements ready to go but they never did. Quite a shame too because I know this put off A LOT of people from playing it. Also wasn't fond of how Bethesda treated PS3 users poorly in terms of DLC. Xbox/PC versions have about half a dozen small pieces of DLC that were never made available to PS3. |
