Default Where can I safely store my stuff?

This may have been asked before but I really want to continue playing the game not search on my computer all night. I know you can buy houses in some towns but can you also store stuff in random barrel or chests that are not in a house or city?

Where is the house I can buy where the Companions live? the town called whitehelm or something.. I got on there good side and the Jarl said I could buy property now but I don't know where it is.

And how do I increase my carrying capacity beyond 305? I was at 300 but I don't even know how I gained 5 extra pounds of space. Can I fast travel when I'm carrying too much?

Please help, I'm only used to playing Fallout.

The house you can buy is in Whiterun and it is actually a decent little house with 3 solid vendors to sell to. Make sure if you buy an Alchemy lab to not store stuff in the Guest bedroom upstairs as the Housecarl I think takes the stuff in the dressers there.

Stamina increases weight load capacity and you can also find Enchanted items later on that gives you Fortify bonus. And you cannot fast travel while carrying too much unless you have a potion that will give you a slight increase for 20-30 seconds.

So drink potion outside and then fast travel to home to unload.

Ok, I'm in Whiterun now and i have no idea which house it is..there are so many buildings. What does the name of the house that I can buy say when you approach the door?? You mean there are 3 people living in this house? Are there houses in this game that you can have all to yourself and not worry about being robbed?

All this time I've been raising my health when it should have been stamina, thanks for that tip.

And just to be sure renting a room and buying property are not the same thing right?

You have to see the Jarls right hand man Avenius and buy the house from him. 5000 gold and it will be the 2nd house on the right when you enter Whiterun. House name is Breezehome. You then need to furnish it as well so best to just buy/sell as much as you can or just buy the house and dump everything in the corner until you can buy home decor.

this is my first post and slice of advice! (slice of advice. not bad huh?)

anyways if you want more carry capacity get the steed stone blessing. its west of solitude and north of a statue called statue of meridia. its awesome 100 extra carry cap and equipped armor weighs nothing plus you get no movement penalty from any kind of armor

Join the college in Winterhold. I don't remember exactly, but it takes maybe 2 quests. They give you a FREE room which includes a bed and all the storage you need.

That's what I did, you don't have to do many quests either. I think as soon as you do that blocking lesson you get a room, or after you find that circle thing.

What I did that worked out really well for me was getting my pick pocketing up to 50 and getting the perk that increased the carrying capacity by 100. Now my capacity is 450 and that is before counting in my followers capacity. Also, my main house is breeze home and my previous follower, Lydia, would be waiting in there after waiting too long. Also, I've noticed that I can put any item in there, not in the chest, and it would be there days later.

In riverwood, if you do the quest for the store merchant and marry the lady there, you get to move into the house and get storage , also you can sell stuff there as well.

Ok I saved up for the house in Whiterun and got a room at the college so hopefully my stuff wont disappear if I store things in two different locations.. I read somewhere that all the containers in the game reset after 35 in-game days or something.
