My copy of Skyrim cannot be platinumed

Thieves Guild quest line cannot be completed in my game. The quest Speaking with Silence cannot be progressed as when you get to Snow Veil Sanctum Mercer will not open the place. I've tried everything. Dismissed follower, pushed him up to the door, everything. Now he follows me everywhere and according to the Skyrim wiki and the forums this will cause the game the main story.

I've put 70 hours into this. Feeling pretty sickened.

Worrying thing is that it's a common problem and it's not in the patch notes for 1.5.

Word of warning to those looking to plat this game. It's a good game and very enjoyable, but still very buggy.

Yeah my thieves guild quests glitched on me too, as well as one of the stormcloak trophies so I have to do another playthrough to get like 4 trophies it blows but if thats the worst i have to worry about its no big deal

Luckily, I never had any glitches like that for the faction quests. I just had many glitches with general play, side quests and daedric quests.

Yeah, it's a shame. Thing that worries me the most is that a lot of people are saying that when they restarted the game and started all over again the same thing occurred. Be heartbreaking to start a new game and go through all the thieves quests again only for the same thing to occur.

It might not, chances are it won't happen again

Hopefully, my plan is to do everything else so all I need is the thieves guild trophy and then start again and blitz it.

Make lots of manual saves so you have ones to reload without losing too much progress. I know for several quests I had that bugged out like Forsworn Conspiracy, some of the Daedric ones(Skull of Corruption and Volendrung) and World Eater's Eyrie, I reloaded a previous save and was able to progress the quest/story and get the trophies done. Some of the bugs seem pretty random, but apparently there are some things you can do to reduce their chances of happening according to the skyrim wiki.

Yeah, I had a save prior to starting the quest, but it still occurs. Tried all the potential fixes on the wiki. Sadly, none have worked so far. I'm just hoping it occurred because the save file is so big and by starting a new game and doing nothing but the thieves guild quests I'll be ok.

That or by the time I've finished the rest of the game there will have been a patch that has fixed this.

I had problems with glitches with the civil war questline (damn near every quest) and doing this definitely helped, though I did nearly lose my mind.

I just finished my thieves guild line today and luckily no bugs, but I made a save after every finished quest in the line as it only takes 15sec out of your play. Skyrim saves and quests are like insurance, you never think you'll need it until it happens and then it's devastating without it.

My companion line got bugged, and I was very glad to have backups.
