How to pick items up?????

Hi, this was asked in one of the other threads but not answered. I would like to know how can you pick upand item and move it around without adding it to your inventory first.

I would love to stack items in my home but can't move them about, I can only take them or drop them from my inventory

I have tried all buttons on the damn controller and looked in the options and button config and no joy

umm, 'X'? (PS3) 'A'? (xBox)

Just add it to your inv & then drop it wher you want it. if you want to store it elsewhere, interact with the chest/ cupboard / person & press square (PS3) or 'X' (xBox) to store your item in that place.

for example in my Breezehome I have an Alchemy lab & the alchemy satchel on there is where I store all my alchemy gubbins for later potion making.

I think the satchel was previously owned by Mary Poppins though as it seems to be able to hold a HELL of a lot of stuff.

thanks for the quick response, but I already know that, what I am after is being able to select a object and keep it out of my inventory and move it around the area and place it where I want.

If I go and drop items, it seems to drop in a randomish place, therefore making things like piles of books or piles of ingots (yes I am sad but this for me is part of the enjoyment of a Elder Scrolls )

you mean accurate positioning of dropped items?

I think you're out of luck there buddy.

you could try dropping it & trying to kick it into position, but I'm pretty sure if you drop an item it just appears in front of you & falls.

I did some littering yesterday on the streets of Whiterun with 10 x 'Butcher' letters.
It just dropped them pretty much in a line across in front of me (going left to right)

I sometimes move things by mistake when trying to pickup.

If you push and hold and then move your character the item moves with you. At least it does that for bodies etc. for me it has never picked up the item when I hold the down.

I tried to move a body around to see if there was another under it.

very easy. on ps3 i just hold the "x" button for more than 2 sec. A normal fast click will pick it up to inventory. Holding the button will make you move the object.

You may not have to continue holding once the object is held , just move around.

Will have to do this tonight and give my home a makeover a put things where I want, OCD much.

Double tap x, did this by mistake the other day and took a while to get rid of the item I was dragging around lol
