In other words, if you want the most out of your money, you're typically better off on the harder difficulties. If you're interested in experiencing the story in a timely manner, you could play on the easier difficulties. The slider lets you continuously play the game the way you want (and not get stuck) as playing the game on higher difficulties might require you to pay a lot of attention to what perks you pick up (especially earlier in the game).

I just question how one can be satisfied with their progress when thy can inadvertently bypass any area by lowering the difficulty. This is a game with a rich fantasy medieval atmosphere. How are we expected to be immersed in whats around the next corner or care about which skills, equipment etc to upgrade when the game path is practically laid out with little conviction towards challenge.

Does the difficult slider even work? Had it on Adept, faced a pretty tough enemy, put it on novice, still get my ass handed to me. It doesn't even seem to become a bit easier. Maybe it's just a really tough enemy? No matter the difficulty..

I'm playing on Apprentice, the second to last easiest option.
I did the same in Oblivion. I don't like dying in these type of games, it always annoys me. I just like going round doing the quests and exploring the dungeons. I don't put it on the easiest though just so there's a slight challenge (I want an excuse to still use my shield! ).
