1.0. Preparing for Damn, I'm Good

1.1 - Basics

1. Complete the SP Campaign on Let's Rock difficulty. Although anything difficulty you select will unlock Damn, I'm Good difficulty setting. It's best to beat the game on Let's Rock (Normal) instead because you'll unlock the Duke 3D Freeze Ray cheat within the "Extras" menu. Refer to Known Exploits for more information.

2. Discover all ego cap rewards. Before you begin the game on Insane Difficulty it's recommended that you collect every Ego reward in the game and have unlocked the I Am All That Is Man (S) trophy. Following the video guide provided by ProwerPyx:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuRhaRJUtWw&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - Duke Nukem Forever - All Ego Cap Rewards (I Am All That Is Man Trophy/Achievement Guide)[/ame]

3. Begin your Insane Playthrough via Chapter Select. Whatever you do don't select a New Campaign to begin Damn, I'm Good. You'll lose all your Ego cap rewards and other collectible data. So use Chapter Select in order to keep all your Ego cap rewards which will make surviving Insane even less stressful.

2.0. Known Exploits

2.1 - Duke Cheats

*The Duke Nukem Forever Duke 3D Freeze Ray Cheat*

There's a cheat in the game that will make the remaining levels on Insane mode very easy. If you chosen to clear the game on Let's Rock or higher you'll unlock the Duke 3D Freeze Ray cheat in the "Extras" menu. Unlike some of the other cheats in the game this cheat won't disable your trophies from unlocking. This cheat will enable the Freeze that you'll find later in the game to fire bouncing ice projectiles. An enemy hit with these projectiles will freeze fast for you to kill and you can shoot them from a great distance too with it. When you run low on ammo, just disable the cheat and your Freeze gun will recharge its ammo automatically then re-enable it again. This trick will work on almost everything you'll face in the game. So I highly recommend that you select Let's Rock when you start your first playthrough to have a great advantage when you first find the Freeze gun on your Damn, I'm Good playthrough. It’s completely up you wither to use it or not. I personally tested it out after clearing Insane for I didn't have the cheat since I beaten the game on Piece of Cake. After trying it out on Chapter Select on "The Shrink Machine", I flew through levels faster than I did on my normal Damn, I'm Good playthrough all the way up to "Blowing the Damn" where you'll have to ditch it for it's useless in the water.

3.0. Weapons Guide

3.1 - Weapon Analysis

Melee:

Your standard melee attack with your fists, weapon butting an enemy or used when you perform an execution which will cause Duke to perform an upper cut or boot to the face.

Pistol:

First Found: The Duke Cave

Ammo Carry Limit: 64

Usefulness:The pistol is very important and is a good secondary weapon to carry at all times. The unique thing about the pistol is that it'll do major damage to enemies if you dealt them a headshot. Plus it has a fast reload.

Comments: It's bad on the bigger aliens such as the Assault Commander or aliens with armor.

Shotgun:

First Found: Vegas Ruins

Ammo Carry Limit: 28

Usefulness: The shotgun is very useful for close combat quarters. It can make quick work of the Pig Cops and Octabrains enemies.

Comments: Has a bad range and damage will decrease. Another downside is that it reloads one shell at a time and has the slowest reload in the game.

Ripper:

First Found: Vegas Ruins

Ammo Carry Limit: 200

Usefulness: Very good weapon against groups of enemies and can shot very far dealing the same amount of damage.

Comments: The clip is very small of 50 magazine and needs to be reloaded very often due to it's high rate of fire.

Devastator:

First Found: Duke Lives

Ammo Carry Limit: 69

Usefulness: The strongest weapons in the game. Although this is essentially a double barrel rocket launcher it has great accuracy at short range.

Comments: The rockets will scatter when firing from a long distance or will scatter when they fly toward their target.

Shrink Ray:

First Found: Duke Burger Roof

Ammo Carry Limit: 10

Usefulness: Can shrink any enemy hit by it in the game excluding the bosses. The enemy shrunken by this gun will become 10 times weaker than normal. Not only that but Duke can foot stomp them or shoot them once with one bullet from your secondary weapon to quickly kill the enemy.

Comments: Has a very small clip of only 10 ammo. Can be hard to shot enemies that are moving cause you to waste a shoot. You'll usually have to exchange it for another weapon.

RPG:

First Found: Vegas Ruins

Ammo Carry Limit: 5

Usefulness: Very useful for defeating bosses. Can fire a heat-seeking rocket at target players have their crosshair over an enemy for a few seconds before firing.

Comments: Needs to be resupplied frequently during boss fights. Not good on standard enemies.

Pipe Bomb:

First Found: Vegas Ruins

Carry Limit: 4

Usefulness: These are grenades that can be remotely detonated after thrown. Players can throw multiple pipe bombs at a time before detonating them all at once. Players can use these to bounce off the alien launch pads found throughout the game.

Comments: Can't over use them for too much or you'll run out. The explosions can harm you if you detonated them too soon.

Trip Mines:

First Found: The Lady Killer: Part 3

Carry Limit: 4

Usefulness: These are laser mines that can be placed on any surface. If something touches the red laser, the Trip Mine will explode killing or damaging whatever is in front of the Trip Mine. Can be stick on enemies causing them to try to remove it before it explodes.

Comments: Can't be thrown that hard. These are useless on Insane Difficulty. The RPG and Pipe Bombs can destroy them.

Freeze Ray:

First Found: The Shrunk Machine

Ammo Carry Limit: 200

Usefulness: Fires a cold ice beam at enemies to freeze them. Frozen enemies can be melee, executed or shoot to shatter. The Freeze Ray's ammo will recharge over time. There's a cheat in the "Extras" menu to change the weapon into a projectile weapon but loses ability to refill.

Comments: Has a short range of about 20 meters. The ice beam needs to be focused on an enemy to freeze them solid. Its useless underwater for it'll backfire and freeze Duke.

Railgun:

First Found: The Duke Dome

Ammo Carry Limit: 12

Usefulness: Has a scope to accurately snipe enemies from long range. Is capable to killing an enemy in one shot. Headshots will explode an enemies head for instant kills. Capable of penetrating walls and multiple enemies at once.

Comments: Can't stay still and snipe at enemies. Not good as a secondary or standard weapon choice.

Enforcer Gun:

First Found: Duke Burger Roof

Ammo Carry Limit: 15

Usefulness: Is essentially an alien RPG. The rockets are capable of homing in on enemies from a short range when fired.

Comments: Not a great choice for an RPG weapon. Rockets will scatter at longer range. Fires very slowly towards it’s intend target.

AT Laser:

First Found: The Duke Cave

Ammo Carry Limit: 60

Usefulness: Is essentially a M16 alien assault rifle. It can be held down for continuous fire. It has a high rate of fire rate. Is the first weapon in the game players receive.

Comments: Players will most likely never use this gun after again for it's a bad weapon choice. There's a delay within its burst fires.

AT Captain Laser:

First Found: The Lady Killer

Ammo Carry Limit: 80

Usefulness: Is essentially an alien Ripper gun. Has a high rate of fire. Is a very accurate weapon at long or short range.

Comments: Players need to windup the gun before firing it. Players must go through the winding up animation again if you stopped shooting. Its lasers will travel very slowly towards its target.

4.0. Items Guide

4.1 - Basic Items

Beer: Reduces all damage inflicted on Duke by 1/4 than normal.

Information: Drinking a can of beer will make Duke tougher and will reduce all damage by 75%. When players have Duke Drink a beer is vision will become blurry and a slow-motion effect will take effect. Beer's effects only last for a short period of time of about 40 seconds. Players can save beers for drinking on later levels.

Duke Vision: Duke's night vision sunglasses.

Information: Enables Duke to see through dark areas. Players can use Duke Vision at anytime during the game.

Steroids: Increases Duke's strength and speed when consumed.

Information: Steroids will make Duke's Ego set to 75% than normal, but will have increased melee strength for melee combat only. The effects from the steroids will make Duke faster so he can run up on enemies to melee attack them to death. Steroids can refill your Ego even will you’re damaged and are near death. Players can save taking steroids for later levels.

Holoduke: Projects a hologram of Duke and will make the player invisible.

Information: When used, the holoduke will project a hologram that will reassemble Duke. The hologram of Duke will distract enemies with gunfire and will run around on its own. While this is happening the Player becomes invisible to sneak up on distracted enemies. Players can save holodukes for later levels.

5.0. Enemies Guide

5.1 - Enemy Analysis

Alien Fighter:

First Encountered: Mothership Battle

Weapons: Lasers

Mobility: Flying

Movement: Fast

Most Effective Weapons: Machine Gun Turret

Information: Alien Fighters are the alien crafts that fly around the sky.

Strategy: Make use of the auto-assist by pressing :l1: auto lock on them for easy disposal of the target.

Assault Captain:

First Encountered: The Lady Killer

Weapons: AT Captain Laser and Melee

Mobility: Walking, Flying, and Teleportation

Movement: Average

Most Effective Weapons: Pistol, Shotgun, Ripper, Shrink Ray, Melee and Freeze Gun

Information: Assault Captains can teleport in the air or behind Duke

Strategy: When you inflict enough damage on them they'll teleport. 50% of the time they'll teleport behind you or near you and will either shoot you at the back or melee you. When they teleport their teleportation will make a certain sound effect and a white flash will indicate where they teleported to. Be on the lookout for those signs. Sometimes they'll just teleport in the air only instead of teleporting behind Duke.

Assault Commander:

First Encountered: Lady Killer Part 3

Weapons: RPG Rocket Launcher and Charge Blade Attack

Mobility: Flying

Movement: Average

Most Effective Weapons: Shotgun, Ripper, , Freeze Gun (cheat), Shrink Ray, RPG, Pipe Bombs, and Trip Mines

Information: Assault Commander are a flying type enemy capable of turning humans into Pig Cops. They hover around the air shooting rockets from its butt at Duke and can use their blades as a melee weapon charging towards the player and knocking you down if hit.

Strategy: The Shrink Ray will make these guys 10 times weaker. Shooting them with the Shrink Ray will reduce them to an action figure size while they're still flying around in the air. Once you shrunk them down simply throw a Pipe Bomb in the air by him and remotely detonate for an instant kill (A Shrink Ray is always in the air when these aliens appear). When you first encounter the Assault Commander you're limited to the Pistol, Shotgun, Trip Mines, and 2 cans of Beer.

Assault Enforcer:

First Encountered: Duke Burger Part 3

Weapons: Enforcer Gun and Melee

Mobility: Walking

Movement: Slow

Most Effective Weapons: Pistol, Shotgun, Ripper, Shrink Ray, RPG, Pipe Bombs, Devastator and Freeze Gun

Information: Assault Enforcers are armed with the Enforcer Gun which is a homing alien RPG rocket launcher. They are strong enough to survive Duke's steroid punches are strong melee hitters as well. Sometimes players will encounter them with a metal shield. The shield must be destroyed before damage can be inflicted. This enemy is also a boss fight in the game when Duke is shrunken.

Strategy: Keep your distance from them for their homing rockets will lose focus on you as a target. Before they can be killed their armor must be removed/chipped away before they actually go down. Pipe Bombs will remove their armor. Don't try to fight these aliens in close combat or they inflict major melee damage towards Duke.

Assault Trooper:

First Encountered: The Duke Cave

Weapons: AT Laser and Melee

Mobility: Walking, and Flying

Movement: Average

Most Effective Weapons: Pistol, Shotgun, Ripper, Shrink Ray, Melee and Freeze Gun

Information: Assault Troopers can either walk or fly while shooting it's AT Laser gun at the player. However, they cannot teleport unlike their brethren Assault Captains.

Strategy: No real strategy against them for since they’re standard enemies and can easily be killed by anything in the game.

Dropship:

First Encountered: Mothership Battle

Weapons: None

Mobility: Flying, Hovering

Movement: Varies Between Average to Fast

Most Effective Weapons: Machine Gun Turret, RPG, and Devastator

Information: Dropships are alien vehicles that are very similar to their Gunship counter parts. Dropships will come to deploy a squad of Pig Cops, Assault Troopers, Assault Captains, and Assault Enforcers.

Strategy: No real strategy here. Only the Machine Gun Turret and explosive weapons can harm them. When they come they'll drop troops automatically and take off on some levels. Other levels it's best to destroy them when they first appear such as the Mothership for example. Other levels such as the Crash Course it's best to kill the troopers inside it before the exit the dropship.

Gunship:

First Encountered: The Duke Dome

Weapons: Mounted Laser Gun

Mobility: Flying, Hovering

Movement: Varies Between Slow to Average

Most Effective Weapons: Machine Gun Turret, RPG and Devastator

Information: Gunships are armored vehicles of their Dropship counter parts. They are about 5 times larger than the Alien Fighter crafts and are very powerful.

Strategy: No real strategies here. Only the Machine Gun Turret and explosive weapons can harm them. When heavily damaged, they'll begin to emit smoke indicating that it's almost destroyed.

Octababy:

First Encountered: The Hive

Weapons: None

Mobility: Crawling, Jumping and Swimming

Movement: Varies Between Slow to Average

Most Effective Weapons: Foot stomp and Pipe Bombs

Information: Octabaies are the infant versions of the Octabrains. However they aren't mature enough to fly yet or use their shockwave attacks. They hatch from the impregnated when found in the game.

Strategy: Save your ammunition on these aliens and just foot stomp them. When you underwater sometimes it's best to throw a Pipe Bomb at them and remotely detonate it.

Octabrain:

First Encountered: The Hive

Weapons: Throwing Debris, Shockwave

Mobility: Flying, Hovering

Movement: Varies Between Slow to Average

Most Effective Weapons: Pistol, Machine Gun Turret, Freeze Gun (cheat) ,Shotgun, Ripper, Shrink Ray, Pipe Bombs, Rail Gun (sometimes), Trip Mines and Devastator

Information: Octabrains fly/hover around in the air like an alien octopus. They attack players by throwing debris or other junk objects such as barrels or boxes. It also has a shockwave attack that it'll fire at the player if there is nothing to throw at Duke. However, Octabrains have a nasty ability to catch any projectile based weapon fired at it and shoot it back towards the player. This makes the RPG and Pipe Bombs sometimes useless against it. Although you can detonate the Pipe Bomb you've thrown at it before if throws it back at you.

Strategy: There are plenty of ways to kill these aliens. When you first encounter them the shotgun is capable to interrupting their shockwave attack when you shoot them with it. Pipe Bombing them can reduce the work on them greatly. A very fast method to instantly kill them is to shrink them and then throwing a Pipe Bomb at it and remotely detonate it.

Pig Cops and Super Pig Cops:

First Encountered: The Duke Cave (Pig Cops) and Vegas in Ruin (Super Pig Cops)

Weapons: Pistol, Ripper, Shotgun, RPG, Freeze Gun, Pipebomb, Melee

Mobility: Varies Between Average to Fast

Movement: Walking, Jumping and Running

Most Effective Weapons: Pistol, Ripper, Rail Gun, Shotgun, RPG, Pipe Bombs, Trip Mines, Melee, Shrink Ray, Freeze Gun, and RPG

Information: Pig Cops are standard enemies and come in two forms of normal Pig Cops and Super Pig Cops. Only difference between the normal Pig Cops and Supers is that the Super ones are bigger in terms of muscular mass and have RPGs instead of the classic standard guns like the Pistol or Ripper. Most of the Pig Cops in the game you'll notice are wearing EDF uniforms hinting they used to be human EDF soldiers before they were transformed into a Pig Cop that might have highly been the Assault Commander's doings. Sometimes Pig Cops will throw a Pipe Bomb your way in order to flush you out into the open. The annoy thing about these aliens is that when they get injured badly they'll go berserk and will drop their guns to attack the player with melee attacks only.

Strategy: Pretty much standard strategies. Just about anything can kill them and the Rail Gun and Shotgun can make quick work of these enemies. One tip would be to keep your distance from the running ones or the ones that go berserk because they can grab you now.

Pregnator:

First Encountered: The Hive

Weapons: Melee (grab), Acid Spit

Mobility: Crawling and Jumping

Movement: Varies Between Slow to Average

Most Effective Weapons: Pistol, Shotgun, Ripper, RPG, and Melee

Information: Pregnators are somewhat consider to be a giant version of a male's private part. They are the species that impregnate the captured women. These aliens hatch from the Pregnator eggs scattered throughout the Hive and other levels (the alien pods they hatch from are very similar to the Alien movies franchise). Their only attacks are a grab attack and spitting a white gooey acidic substance at the player.

Strategy: No real strategy here. Just keep your distance and shoot them very carefully because they jump around sometimes. If you're too close these species are capable of grabbing the player.

Rat:

First Encountered: Damn! It's Late... (Harmless) and The Lady Killer (Aggressive)

Weapons: Bite

Mobility: Crawling

Movement: Average

Most Effective Weapons: Pistol, Ripper, Shotgun, Melee

Information: Rats are the smallest enemies in the game and are only capable of attacking Duke by biting him when he's shrunken. They harmless when Duke's big and the player is able to place a Rat in the microwave, throw them at a wall or simply squeeze them to death for fun.

Strategy: No real strategies. You can save the ammo and simply melee them all or you can one burst shot them with the Pistol or Ripper. The Shotgun is able to shot up 2-3 with one bullet if they lined up.

Tentacle:

First Encountered: The Hive

Weapons: Sharp Claws/Stab/Push/Shove

Mobility: Immobile

Movement: Immobile

Most Effective Weapons: Pistol or one shot from any other gun

Information: The Tentacles are only encountered on the alien infested levels and areas. These can't be killed and are stuck on the walls. They can come out and attack the player with their sharp claws. Usually they will sort of stab/push/shove you off a platform to your death.

Strategy: Shoot them before you proceed onward past it. Shooting them will cause them to hid back into the walls for a short period of time before they emerge again.

6.0. Bosses Guide

6.1 - Bosses Strategies and Analysis

Cycloid Emperor (Video Game)

First Encountered: Duke Lives

Weapons: Rocket Launcher, Rocket Booster, Grab Slam, Shockwave, Foot Stomp

Mobility: Walking

Movement: Varies Between Slow to Average

Most Effective Weapons: RPG, Pipe Bombs and Devastator

Information: Cycloid Emperor is the first boss in the game. In fact he's also the last boss of the game. The first one is a Duke Nukem video game boss. He has a total of 5 attacks.

Strategy: You'll start this battle off with the Devastator. The Cycloid Emperor only has 5 attacks but they won't affect you as long as you keep your distance from him. Simply run around in a circle or strafe left and right to dodge his rocket launcher attacks. When you run out of ammo the EDF soldiers will warn you when they're about to drop an ammo resupply crate. When they send Duke the ammo crates it'll be located right next to a red flare. So be on the lookout for the red flares to resupply your ammo. Repeat the dodging of rocket missile attacks and continue firing upon the boss. Eventually he will collapse so run up to him to climb on his back with :square: and repeatedly tap :cross: to pull his life support cable out of his back. When he stands up and collapse again (due to his death) his eye will pop out. Kick his eye by pressing :square: into a goal post just like Duke did with the original video game.

Mothership

First Encountered: Mothership Battle

Weapons: 3 Huge Mounted Lasers

Mobility: Hovering

Movement: Slow

Most Effective Weapons: Machine Gun Turret

Information: The Mothership is the second boss in the game that is a huge Alien fortress that has a three huge mounted lasers. It's highly possible that its responsible for the alien invasion of Earth and has endless amount of Alien Fighters, Gunships and Dropships.

Strategy: The Mother ship can only attack with it's three laser guns, which can cause major damage towards Duke. Although these lasers won't attack the player right away they will fire at Duke if the Mothership isn't destroyed after a certain amount of time has past. You can only damage the Mothership by shooting at the three laser guns for they're the only weak point exposed.

While facing the Mothership you'll encounter the Alien Fighters and Dropships for the first time. These ships are constantly deployed while you're attacking the Mothership to try and stop Duke from destroying their Mothership. So be sure to make use of the auto assist and abuse the :l1: button to auto lock on the Alien Fighters to dispose of them quickly. When the Dropships appear they will drop off Assault Troopers while the Alien Fighters swing by and shooting Duke with their lasers. As the health gauge of the Mothership gets lower, Alien Fighters will appear frequently and instead of being deployed one at a time, they'll begin to come in groups of three instead of one in addition to Dropships.

Battlelord

First Encountered: Vegas in Ruins

Weapons: Laser Minigun, Charge Attack and Mortar

Mobility: Walking

Movement: Slow

Most Effective Weapons: RPG and Pipe Bombs

Information: The Battlelord is the third boss of the game. In fact there are two of them you encounter. The first in Vegas in Ruins and the last one at the Dam Top.

Strategy: Only explosive weapons can damage this Battlelord so pick up one of the many RPGs that scattered around the battlefield pit. In terms of speed the Battlelord is very slow since he's so large. This will give you the advantage to fire of RPG rockets at him while you're constantly circling around him. You'll want to circle around the mound to take cover from his attacks. When you run low on ammo quickly resupply from one of the two ammo crates on the battlefield. When you depleted the Battlelord's health gauge he'll collapse so climb on his back with :square: and repeatedly press :cross: to remove his horn and shove it into his eye. Afterwards finish him off with :square: to humiliate him even further.

Alien Queen

First Encountered: Queen Bitch

Weapons: Shockwave, Stomp

Mobility: Stationary

Movement: N.A.

Most Effective Weapons: RPG and Pipe Bombs

Information: The Alien Queen is fourth boss of the game. Since the invasion began she has made the Duke Dome her nest which created the Hive. The Alien Queen is the mother of the Pregnators and the source of all other organic alien lifeforms within the Hive.

Strategy: The Alien Queen only has two attacks of a energy shockwave blast and a smash attack with her hands. The only ways to inflict damage towards her are by stunning her with Pipe Bombs and using the RPG. While you're fighting her she'll shot Pregnator pods that will hatch Pregnators to attack Duke and she'll protect herself from all attacks by using her arms as protection. There are alien bounce pads on the left and right side of the battlefield. Bounce your Pipe Bombs off it and they'll bounce towards the Queen for you to remotely detonate. The explosions from the bombs will stun her. So fire away at her with the RPG to inflict damage and repeat the process over again. If you run low on ammo or Pipe Bombs then resupply from the ammo and bomb crates located at the center of the battlefield. Near the end of the battle she'll begin to summon Octabrains. Kill the Octabrain she summons with either Pipe Bombs or the Shotgun because they'll get in your way of defeating the Alien Queen due to their abilities to deflect/throw objects back at Duke. Once to depleted her health gauge, climb up on the stage and open her month open with :square: and then press :cross: repeatedly to make her bite her own tongue off causing the energy within her to explode her head.

Battlelord

First Encountered: Dam Top

Weapons: Laser Minigun, Charge Attack and Mortar

Mobility: Walking

Movement: Slow

Most Effective Weapons: RPG, Enforcer, and Pipe Bombs

Information: This is the second Battlelord boss fight in the game. And is a lot more harder than the first one.

Strategy: This fight is much harder than the first Battlelord you fought in Vegas because there there's less cover to hide behind and he has more health than before. It is also aided by respawning flying Assault Troopers. This is a two step process where you must get in to collapse on his knees twice to truly kill him. The only ways to damage him are with explosive weapons and since there's not much of cover make use of the wreaked vehicles scattered throughout the field. Try to stay close to the ammo crates on the left side of the bridge to resupply ammo. It's best to wait until the Battlelord stops shooting first then fire back at him. This will make the fight less stressful. When you down him and pulled one of his horns into his head. He'll become more aggressive and will start charging and kicking the vehicles at Duke. So pull back for more distance and cover and continue firing the RPG at him until you down him again. Once he has collapsed for the 2nd time you can stick the horn into his eye with :square: and :cross: then finish him off further by humiliating him with :square:.

Assault Enforcer

First Encountered: The Shrunk Machine

Weapons: Enforcer Gun and Stomp

Mobility: Walking

Movement: Varies Between Slow to Average

Most Effective Weapons: Shotgun, Ripper, Pistol, Pipe Bombs and Freeze Gun (cheat)

Information: Although the Enforcer is a standard enemy in the game. One Enforcer acts as a boss on The Shrunk Machine since Duke is shrunken and the Enforcer has a boss meter health gauge. Other than the fact it'll take more bullets to kill it. It acts just like a regular Enforcer.

Tip for Duke Cave: Save the Steroids for the pigcop encounter in the generator room (after inserting final fuse for generator). Don't pop the pills until you see the door open, then smack some pork up.

Also, you need to rework your strategy about Octobrains. They have kamikaze attacks when they die, so shotgun to their face is NOT a good idea when your health is low.

Devastator rockets are the best tools against the octobrains, and the only tool you should use for the Octoking. The mini-rockets will disrupt their shockwaves at longer distances and will keep you safe from their kamikaze attacks in the later parts of the game.

I forgotten about the octobrains damaging the player when they die. I'll be adding the info shortly soon after class today. Thank you.

Also, you need to rework your strategy about Octobrains. They have kamikaze attacks when they die, so shotgun to their face is NOT a good idea when your health is low.

What does that look like? I think I have never seen this myself (maybe I was just lucky). I often use the shotgun on them and the shot that kills them usually throws them backwards. Just did it last night during the Queen Bitch battle.

The electric explosion Octobrains cause when they die are usually greenish in nature. The range isn't great, but it's particularly nasty in close quarters combat against multiple enemies (rare in this game).

That's usually the case in larger areas. I happened to be in a tight spot where an octobrain was between me and a firm wall. It stopped at the wall and did a harmful EMP kamikaze. Unfortunately for me, I had too low health to survive this (on Normal by the way). This was early in the Hive chapter, too.

Just make there's enough distance behind the octobrain for it to fly back when it dies. Otherwise, you're in for some hurt. As such, pipe bombs AND Freeze Ray (Duke 3D version) are your best bets. Freeze one and they'll fall and shatter.

A note for the Octoking:

The one making the guides need to know how many Octobrains to kill for your minute of opportunity to shoot at the Octaking. I found a neat 'haste' tactic where I didn't waste all my pipe bombs on the pest back-up until the Octaking was shy of the 3/4 health mark. Then I took out the octabrains in swift succession and hammered the Octaking to the 2nd stage, no Holoduke needed. Once done, I found the Octaking rage attacks to be quite easy to avoid, much like the Leech later on.

The trick to dropping the Octaking's health without engaging the Octabrains is by tucking yourself into the far right corner inside the control cab the Octoking smashes later on, and jumping into that corner madly so the octabrains won't always get to you. Run out, blast the Octoking, run back in and then repeat. In some cases, the octobrains will shoot far and wide of your movement, as they'll anticipate your movement when attacking. This helps with grabbing your ammo and explosives as well.

Remember not to set off the 2nd part of the battle until the octobrains are all dead in fast succession. Then proceed to hammer away. Use 1 can of beer if needed, or none at all if you can outsmart the Octoking's line of assaults.

Queen Bitch is MUCH easier than most think. One pipe bomb is all you need to start the match (stun), then shoot at her every time she 'exposes' herself to for an attack. After the 2nd attack, restock and blast the pregnator with your rocket. Restock again and repeat the tactic.

It'll take some time, but it's more helpful as you'll only need 3 pipebombs at most to take down the first octobrain. Once the octobrains start showing, take them out fast, restock and then aim for the queen's head from the right-center side of the battle field (behind the tall slab of cement). If you stand in the right spot, the Queen will never be able to hit you with her EMPs, and you'll be able to reserve your pipebombs for the octobrains.

Never use any other weapon but the RPG and pipebombs, even against the pregnators. Melee attack the pregnators that come too close, spam the ammo crate all other times.

Thanks. I guess I either have indeed been lucky not to see this or I just didn't realize what was going on when it did.

Is it comfirmed that 3D Freeze Ray doesnt lock trophies??? I'm about to start on insane so i can't leave a chance of getting one big nothing when i finish it :p

Yes or it won't have been mentioned in the guide. Only the Invincibility, Instagib and Infinity Ammo cheats will disable the trophies.
