do i have to listen to all the phone messages in one playthrough or can i get them through chapter select as well?

A Video for all the Ego Cap Rewards has been added.
There are 28 collectible ego awards in total. A couple extra rewards that will be gained automatically just by playing through the story. If you do this on your first playthrough, you will end up with the trophy in the chapter 'Blowin' the Dam'.
