I figured there should be a thread with neat tips/tricks to get more out of the game.
Tip 1. Store most of your health/stamina/heal potions in the storage chest at your home. You will then get more from enemy drops. There is a threshold number for each and if you go below you find more items in drops. NOTE: I read this either in the guide or elsewhere. And tested it out today.

Try to make use of the hold-position feature. Sometimes you just want the hoards of enemies coming to you and your party, rather than having your party spreading themselves out, which will make some battles get out of control and making your party more vulnerable to damage.
This is a great tactic to use for nightmare, and for controlling your AoEs (which include friendly fire in this mode). |

a few tips that I always make sure to do.
*In battle always take out the mages then weaker bad guys first. * summon your dog as soon as you enter a new map if you don't know what is coming up next or if you know there is a big battle. *At the start of each act go to each shop to grab backpacks and armor upgrades. *if you don't mind taking the time re-search each area for treasure, materials, upgrades, ect. (even more so if you are like me and don't use guides.) *by chapter 2 have a rogue cunning at 30 or more and chapter 3 have it at 40 or more and make sure to bring them with you at all times (unless its your Hawke) so you can pick any lock. |
