Now I got DA2 CE on release date and have been playing it every day total play time over 50 hours. You do not need to play the DA:O to get into this DA2 game. There is also a default back story selection to give you similar setup to those that have an import from the DA:O game. It lets you also import a partial play thru and it fills in the gaps, like on mine it basically gave me the back story and not much more. (the pop up messages says something like "incomplete save only importing these...) I forget exactly what... Also if this is your first RPG, I recommend starting play in casual, the reason for this is that you get to enjoy the story more and don't need to worry about the mechanics of game play. If you do find it too easy then you can bump it higher. They made some improvements from DA:O and also the fighting is a bit different.

Since a lot of people praise the first one, you're probably better off playing that. I recently played BioShock and Uncharted (the first ones) after 2-3 years of release and I did not play the sequels mainly for the story, but also so that I can stop at the first games if I didn't feel like continuing. This might have sounded confusing.

Not sure how true
DA:O has a better story the controls and fight system is different and if I recall it is more close fighting DA2 story is very loose, The fighting is way better IMO. You get to watch the fight from farther (camera angle wise) I will for sure play DA:O after I have completed DA2. The only reason I stopped playing DA:O was I got stuck in a place and did not know how to exit to next area. The map system in both games is very bad at least for the way I like to see the map. It does not rotate to your 12 o'clock view. North is always north I guess the top of the screen is north???

story-wise, part 1 is way better. but for the combat (on consoles at least) DA2 will rock your boat more ![]() If you eventually want both though, i'd suggest starting with origins anyhow. once you get into the groove of the 2nd part, the 1st one will feel slow and sluggish >.o |

Thanks for all the replies, just another question (which actually belongs in DA1 but whatever)
How many dlc's are there for Origins? When I look at the subforum I see: Warden's Keep, The Stone Prisoner, Return to Ostagar, Awakening, Darkspawn Chronicles, Leliana's Song, The Golems of Amgarrak and Witch Hunt. But the only extra content I can find is "Awakening" ? how is that possible cheers |

Overall, I am enjoying the second game much more than the first because of the combat and the fact that my character has a voice. Origins might be better than the second if your character had a voice instead of text at the bottom of the screen. |
