I am still in act 1 but to me DA2 feels like one step forward 3 steps back compared to DAO. There were some improvements but overall it felt very unpolished and rushed out compared to DAO.
1.The character voice was nice but overall the writing for the dialogue was not nearly as good. DAO had almost excessive amount of dialogue depth, branching and detail that fleshed out the characters very well. The quality of the writing was also much more professional and believable. 2.Similar to this is the lack of detail on items. All we get is a name and stats. Even 1 sentence of description makes the game more immersive 3.I really don't like having to button mash. I know they were going for more of an action game feel but repeatedly pressing x is not my idea of good action. Using effective strategy and tactics seemed harder to execute the way you want it too. 4.Using the same maps for different areas. Are you farking kidding me? This just reeks of lack of effort. 5. Anyone else notice that the animation for drinking a shot at the bar was identical from mass effect 2? And that the eyes had the same look. Not complaining, its just obvious that DA2 borrowed a huge amount of tech from ME2 which was also a better game. Anyways, Origins was soooo good it would be almost impossible to top. Origins was such a masterpiece, it really shone through how much effort the team put into creating their dream. DA2 while still a good game was like a crap forced out in a hurry so you can get to work on time |

I've not completed the game yet, but as many have mentioned I think the re-used maps is particularly irritating. Even in other games where they use the same template they at least put a different 'skin' on it to make it appear different. This was literally the exact same 3-4 caves over and over.
Also, I felt that while the voice acting was pretty decent for the most part, the actor who did Hawke was terrible. Really wooden. I'm not really a huge fan of the way combat works. I think it is a bit cheap to have cleared a dungeon and then enemies pop up directly behind your mages and wipe them out. It makes tactical positioning pretty obselete when enemies can come from anywhere. However, these are minor gripes and I am enjoying the game. I never played DA:O so I have nothing to compare it to. |

I'm enjoying the story for the most part. Other than that, the game is really lacking when compared to the first Dragon Age.
They made the combat more fast paced, but somehow it just doesn't feel nowhere near as entertaining as it was in Origins. That and it felt like they thought we had to go up against hordes of enemies to enjoy the combat. In Origins you often fought smaller groups of enemies, but it felt more tactical. Here we fight numerous amounts of foes and it feels disorganized. It's a bit insulting that they felt that it was wise to keep using the same maps again and again. Did they think we wouldn't notice or care? Origins was already a game that not everyone could get into. Did they honestly think these changes through? I don't think they did much to appeal to the new players of the series. I'm currently surprised that this game was developed by BioWare, and when you compare it to Origins, it's all the more surprising that it was released the way it was. I was under the impression that they had higher standards for their games. Here's hoping they return to their roots for the next Dragon Age. |

For me I would change a few things too:
1) Traps, in Origins when Zevran, Lelianna or you (warden) spot a trap the rogue comments, in 2, Hawke doesn't say a bloody word & I've tripped over so many. Also check this out to prove me wrong, but when a trap is spotted the Warden's ai controlled party avoid the trap, once again, Hawke's party trip over so many! 2) Yes I agree with everyone, the blody repeat of the dungeons, the only unique places to fight are the Viscounts keep (act 2) and when you do Sebastian's companion quest in act 2. 3) Once again I find myself in agrement, the sex scence, here in the U.K the game is rated 18 (adults only), the same as God of War, Dante's inferno & Duke Nukem, those games all have one thing in common, nudity. 4) I would remove all cameo's from the Warden's adventure(s) as it is clear this is a script for Hawke & putting in character's from other games screws the narrative, or point 5. 5) I would show the Warden in a silent cameo when Varric say's to Cassandra "should I recite the tale of the Warden?" 6) the fact you need a 'cool down' for using health potions. 7) Item managment, I would love to kit out my eniter squad. Ok I'm done. I actually do like the game but prefer DAO. (I want my Warden back!) Last edited by coldsteelblue; 06-22-2011 at 11:02 PM. |

1. Setting, I`m tired of go to your house, read letter A, run around kirkwall kill some stuff. Quest done. Leave kirkwall, go to the same cave. rinse and repeat
2.Races, why can`t we pick what race we want to play as. |

I really hate the design of the combat. There's so little strategy involved. It's frantic, fast and more fun than DA1, but positioning and tactics are just not there. It's kind of pointless to put your warrior in a certain spot when 3 seconds later, more enemies spawn behind your lines out of nowhere. It just feels so cheap to start a fight against 5 opponents and have 15 more spawn during the fight without any announcement or explanation. The narrow passageway I just cleared now has 5 archers standing in it pounding my mages. The regular enemies do no damage, while one or two elites rape your party in 3 shots. Tactics are always the same, focus or stun the 1 elite while your mages AOE the smaller groups. They're kinda forced to do it like this due to the lack of proper healing spells but it's no fun
![]() Wish they'd just come up with a new combat system. This one should be a PC-oriented one with an isometric view. Third person, it doesn't work, it just doesn't click on consoles. And for fuck sake don't consistently spawn more enemies. If your engine can only handle 20 models in play, then have no more than 15 enemies. Don't have 15 enemies that respawn until 30 are dead. It's stupid. Last edited by Theratis; 07-18-2011 at 05:22 PM. |
