Default Grinding, Equipment Upgrading, Monster Capturing - Starter Guide!

Welcome to the unnxandros and professorstotch Disgaea 3: AoD Grinding/Equipment Basics/Monster Capturing Starter Guide!

First thing…during your Item World travels, if you find a vendor who sells Illegal Tickets…BUY THEM ALL!

Grinding:

Needed:
  • Level 7-3 Unlocked
  • Tier 4 Martial Artist (Fury Fatalist, Fight Artist, Champ of Fighters, Viper Fighter)
  • 4800 Mana for your Tier 4 to learn Big Bang
  • Time and patience

There’s a level on Chapter 7 (7.3) Called “Corpse Eaters”. After clearing the level once, you’ll notice that upon your return 9 Eryngiies (Mushroom enemies) are set conveniently on a 3x3 grid with two Exp +50% tiles for a total of +100%. This will be your first power levelling spot. All you really need is a character who can deal damage in a 3x3 pattern and you won’t have much trouble at all.

To find a character who can deal this kind of damage isn’t too difficult. First of all you’ll need a character that has the ability to learn a 3x3 damage skill. The Martial Artist class is one of the best for this, as their tier 4 sub-class can a Big Bang, an extremely powerful attack that…wait for it…does damage on a 3x3 grid! You Martial Artist will need 4800 mana to learn Big Bang. As soon as your Tier 4 Martial Artist has the skill you can use the new feature in the Homeroom called "I Wanna Absorb" which aborbs an ally and all their stats and skill. Said ally will disappear. The cost for this new feature is Ally Level x 100, so if your ally is Level 99 it will cost 9900 Mana. That can be a lot of Mana if you’ve been grinding to get that Big Bang skill. Easy workaround is to reincarnate the Martial Artist first, which will start him back at level 1, thus costing you only 100 Mana to absorb!

Big Bang can only be used with a fist weapon. So make sure the character you’re trying to level has such a weapon, and let them lose on the 7-3 mushrooms until you’re able to kill them in one shot every time. Until this point comes, you’ll be best to send other characters out to weaken them, and then finish them off with Big Bang. Once you’re consistently killing enemies with one hit of your Big Bang, you’ll want to pass a "Stronger Enemies" bill in Homeroom. Go back to 7-3, and keep clearing out the mushrooms until you’re back to one-hitting them. Eventually you're going to pass enough "Stronger Enemy" bills until the mushrooms are at level 99. DO NOT GO PAST LEVEL 99! There’s a bug/feature where level 99 enemies grant more experience than level 300 enemies. Level with this setting until you are really strong (IIRC I left my char at Level 3000 or 4000, cleared said level 90 times.) It’s important to make sure you’re levelling up multiple characters so that you have some variety when encountering tougher enemies down the road.

Equipment Farming:

Needed:
  • Puppy Paw Stick
  • Legendary Fist
  • Legendary Pair of Shoes
  • 4x8x300 Statisticians
  • House of Ordeals (HoO) Unlocked
  • More time…more patience…

As soon as you are done with the main story and those DLC levels you should start clearing the levels called"“Recruiting" (again needed for both of the Baal Trophies) and talk to everyone in the base map they will give you Extra Maps (which you will have to unlock in Homeroom). Also, as a side note…if you happen to have a "Bomb" you can get It's da Bomb! by using the item as a bribe during the vote. If you don’t have a bomb, don’t worry you are going to spend an awful amount of time in the Item World and you’ll find a vendor who sells bombs. Once you beat an Extra Map you will get new dialogue options in the Base map, talk to everyone and you’ll get a new Extra Map.

There’s a very important extra map where you fight a Diez Gent called Satina. As soon as you beat the map you'll get an item called "Puppy Paw Stick" which is a once-in-a-playthrough item (although you can get a cheaper version from a pirate, but this one is Legendary, so don’t lose it). The Puppy Paw Stick is ESSENTIAL to create equipment and it will save you a LOT of hours.

We have the Puppy Paw Stick (PPS from now on) so what's next? In my case I had a high level Mao, and was my main char. so I decided to build a Runner. A runner isn’t necessary but it will make Item world faster. To build a runner you will need to create a new character: either Moth or Masked Hero… I like Moths. As soon as we have a Legendary Pair of Shoes just get into Item World (IW) and start clearing up to level 100. Only Legendary rank items have 100 levels. Every X0 Levels you have a chance to find an Innocent town, in there there’s the potential that you will get a Homeroom. Each Item can be upgraded three times, so just pass the improved movement bill in the IW Homeroom three times. If you feel that you can clear this IW in a single run, do so and you’ll get a bronze trophy (Item Spelunker). Your shoes will be Lv 100+ and have a Population (POP) of 8 and +4 Movement.

Now it’s time to get Statisticians. In order to get a Statistician you will need to Reverse Pirate those shoes and capture a Statistician. Here’s a detailed guide on how to do it: GameFAQs: Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (PS3) FAQ/Walkthrough by Aerius (skip to sections [MAX3500] and [MAX3600]). You will need to dupe as many shoes as you can until you have at least 6 pairs of shoes (which you will have) and 4x8x300 Statisticians. As soon as you are done with those dupes, level your Legendary Fist until its population is 8. Transfer 8x300 Stats on the Fist and you will have your first set of "Perfect" Grinding equipment. Our last step is to unlock House of Ordeal. On how to unlock and clear these levels refer to the previous guide, but skip to [MAX3200]. Once everything is done, just Level your main/s in HoO 4 up-to level 9999: remember if you are overpowering that level just pass a SEB (Stronger Enemy Bill).

Tying Up Loose Ends:

Needed:
  • Open the Land of Carnage
  • Beat the Eryngi Baal
  • Beat IWCA, CWCA, Survival Mode
  • Finish Recruiting ALL Characters
  • Finish all side story missions if you haven’t already
  • Meet the Real Baal
  • Obtain the Chicken Hat
  • Level some Rank 40 weapons and 2 Trapezohedrons to level 200
  • Obtain Legendary skills

If you were lucky during any of your raids to the Item World you might have found a vendor who sells "Illegal Tickets" if you do BUY EM ALL. There are 2 vendors (One in floors 1-49) and the other one on floors 51+. Additionally by beating Pirates you will get Illegal Tickets. Each ticket unlocks an X-Dimension Level, and by clearing 25 of those you’ll open the Land of Carnage and with 34 you’ll get the Chicken Hat.

Doing monotonous grinding and duping is boring I get it, that’s why I recommended you to start clearing the “Recruiting” Maps and “Extra Maps” and the last one of those Extra Maps is the Eryngii Baal map, which is tough, but not as tough.

He isn’t as hard as it looks like; with a level 9999 char with good equipment you can own him. If you are missing a lot you can equip yourself with Naïve Glasses that are awarded for beating 20% of X Dimension Levels. The Strategy here is to kill every one of his “guards” and lure him to your base (or bring your allies to him). Just do not let him attack… How do you that? Well… have a character "LIFT" Baal as your last command and the enemy won’t attack but it will kill your ally. Be sure to be able to kill him in 9 or less commands, because you will run out of allies. Once you kill him you’ll get Eryngi Baal Slayer. If you are having problems with the damage output just get 4x8x19998 Gladiators, same way that you got your Statisticians, you will need them later.

Now let’s meet the Real Baal, you won’t be able to kill him yet, but you will be able to steal a Rarity 0 Trapezohedron and a Rarity 0 Baal Body. To be able to meet Baal you will need to get every possible char.

If you have been following this Road Map, We cleared the DLC, we cleared every Extra maps, we cleared every Recruiting, we are missing Survival, IWCA (IW=Item World CA=Command Attack) and CWCA (CW=Class World CA=Command Attack). Your objective is to beat IWCA and CWCA in 150 commands or less, but there are two trophies Commando King and IWCA Flyweight Champion that have similar objectives. Instead of beating them under 150 commands you need to do it under a 100 commands. So kill two birds with a stone and get both the chars and the trophies on a single run. See the CWCA section of the trophy guide for tips

We are missing a single char: In Survival Mode you'll need to get 7 Level Spheres and a mystery room will spawn with a green dragon (which will grant you a wish. You have to pick the last option which is "I want a mascot girl" or something along the lines. This will unlock the LAST Extra Map called “Paid to get in?” plus a cinematic due to character completion. We are interested in the “Paid to get in?” Level.

First of all build a Tier 6 Thief, and get her past Level 5001+, I recommend to level her to 9999+ since you’ll be doing it eventually. She has an evility that double the chance to steal an item, but the condition is to be in a higher level than the enemy.. Get in this last extra Map, send your thief in and look for a Baal Body on Rarity 0 and a Trapezohedron of the same rarity, steal one (you will have 99% chance to steal), pick her up (Baal with ONE KO anything at this point of the game) and steal the second item. Once you have both the Body and the Trap, die, and you’ll go back to the base (full of shame no doubt, but now you have 2 rank 40, rarity 0 sweet items).

Now it's the time to decide who is going to be your -first- Real Main char. I like Laharl, but do pick any char with a good special Evility. Next decide what kind of weapon do you want to equip him with, we are going for the Tera Damage! Trophy which will get us Giga Damage! and Mega Damage! And this is a time consuming trophy, so be sure to pick a char you like. If you haven’t done this before get 8x19998 Gladiator Innocents. We are going to build a Max Stat Level 200 Trapezohedron. Here’s a terrific guide on how to do such a thing: GameFAQs: Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (PS3) Item Maximization/Duplication FAQ by Prometheusx303.

Once you have a max stat level 200 Trap, transfer 8x19998 Gladiators and dupe it 3 times. Why? So you can have 3 traps and 8x19998 ready to be transferred to your weapon of choice. Let’s say you want to use a Sword… well now it’s time to get a rank 39 Legendary Sword (Yoshitzuna) and level it to level 99 in the normal Item World. As soon as you are done, Gency out IN FLOOR 99 AND NOT FLOOR 100. Go to the LoC Item World, beat floor 99 and steal the Baal Sword from the Item God in Level 100, you will need that Level 9999 Thief here. Once you have the Baal Sword, Level it to 200 and transfer 8x19998 Gladiators. Congratulations you have a more than decent equip, not the best, but definitely the one that I used to platinum Disgaea 3. It might seem that I went a little bit too fast here, but again this just a basic outline, and everything is covered in the linked guides.

First of all I want to clarify that this is not the way to create super amazing chars and equip, I know there are ways to get perfect stats and magichanged weapons but the following route is 'flawless' (as in "If I did it, anyone can") and should get you to where you need to be in regards to your pursuit of the damage trophies.

For the sake of consuming less time we are opting for a Magichange setup. So it's decision time: Either we build a Magichange char or try to capture one. In my case (and I would recommend you following my lead since it takes LESS time) I used the capture route. Since we have a Level 200 Baal and 3 trapezohedrons equipped with 4x19998 Gladiators either route will be boosted by 2 million ATK stats, dealing a billion damage to a Hero Prinny with 7 Cheerleaders and Sapphire will be easy (In Depth Guide Below).

Now we are going to level our (Human) main char. and try to get a Legendary Skill (if you want to create a monster char for magichange do this with both chars), this is the main course of action:
  • Reincarnate
  • Level the reincarnated char to level 80-100, no more.
  • Class World x 6 (You’ll have plenty of opportunities to Dupe, so make use of them, you can get perfect equip for other chars). I suggest leveling critical at least 20 times.
  • On Floor 10, if you clear all the tiles you will get a Green Dimensional gate. Inside there’s either a Prinny (Rare) or a Masked Hero (common). The prinny teaches rare Skills. If you picked Sword be sure to buy the Best Sword Skill.
  • Level up to 9999
  • Repeat Cycle till you reincarnated 5 times.

Capturing Monsters:

Now it’s a matter of choice in what to do. At this point with Sapphire (Boosts 20% of Damage to adjacent allies, Mao+Aurum Magichanged, boosted by 100% Atk damage by a fighter) and 8 cheerleaders with 20% increased damage when dealing a critical I was able to deal 9 Billion to a Hero Prinny. There are alternatives here: the fastest one is to avoid leveling a second character (to magichange) and just capture SEB (Stronger Enemy Bills) super powered enemies in LoC. How do we do this? Progressively. You cant expect to capture a super mob in a rank 100 reverse pirate, it won’t happen. There are two criteria in order to capture an enemy. First your main char should be of a level equal or higher to the enemy. And in second place you should be able to create that enemy (e.g Lets say that you unlocked Moth till rank 3, in that case you will be able to capture a Moth of Tier 3+1 and not a Tier 5 or 6 one). Why did I ask you to pick a weapon type? Easy your last capture should be of the chosen type in order to take advantage of the skill that you picked with the Prinny in the Class World. You’ll need an item called Chicken Hat for this method to work flawlessly. You can get a Chicken Hat by clearing 35 (80%) levels of the X Dimension. Once you met the criteria and have the hat, equip it to your main char and get into a Reverse Pirate of a low ranking weapon on its level 20. In this place you will find a “Low HP”+ “Low stats” enemy to capture, any enemy will do. My Mao had 8 Mill Atk –when I started this capture method- and I will list my captures in chronological order
  1. Level 9421 Satana – HP 3.6 Million – Atk 2.2 Million
  2. Level 9999 Satana – HP: 3.7 Million – Atk 2.4 Million
  3. Level 9999 Hermit – HP: 28 Million – Int: 3.1 million
  4. Level 9727 Dream Idol – HP 69 Million – Int 3.2 Million
  5. Level 9999 Idol Master – HP 78 Million – Int 3.9 Million
  6. Level 9999 Tiamat - HP 99 Million - Atk 6.7 Million
  7. Level 9999 Ambriel – HP 132 Million – Hit 6.9 million
  8. Level 9999 Green Giant – HP 219 Million – Atk 12.2 Million
  9. Level 9999 Bastet (Sword Type) – HP 210 Million – Atk 14 Million

It took me 2 hours to find and capture these enemies.

As you can see it was a progressive thing, and I kept on equipping the Chicken Hat on the strongest char (Mao till capture #7), Of course, I started on a level 20+ Vato Sword (where I found those Satana) and finished on a level 80+ Trapezohedron. There are far stronger enemies to capture but why bother… With my Mao using Baal Sword (Maxed)+3 Traps (Maxed)+4x19998 Gladiators + Magichanged Bastet (sword) with Sapphire + 8 Cheerleaders my base Atk went to 51 million. And I've dealt 12 billion to a Hero Prinny… The game was over for me.

Once that you are able to deal 10 Billion Damage, congratulations you are almost done with the game!

Thanks for the tips.

Just 1 question - are there any special requirements for using the Big Bang skill?

I decided to first put this on Champloo who already had Fist weapon. However, the skill does not appear in Status screen or battle...despite me being able to boost it to level it up.

What am I missing?

Check if he has the skill equipped To do this:

Press > Special > Champloo > Check if Big Bang is there > Check if its on the "Special Equipped" Column, if not, just transfer it from the Possessed to Equip Column.

If its on the Equipped column, you should be able to use it with a Fist weapon equipped.

Please explain innocents to me. I know you meet them in item world levels and if you "kill" them before the monsters do, they become subdued or something. What then? Do they then add to the item stats? Can they be removed from the items and should I do it to the innocents in the items I have to store them for some future use?

Innocents is a LONG subject but here is an attempt to make a summary of this subject.

1st) Every weapon has a POP level (Population) level and whenever u get an item, you'll see that it will have some (or none) innocents, called Gladiators, Dietician, Master, etc, etc. Usually they have a red angry face next to it meaning that they are active (meaning, their stat boost is effective) but you can't move them out of there. So let's say that you want gladiators in your base legendary weapon (Max Pop 6 atm) which is full of crappy innocents. What you will have to do is subdue em by finding them in the IW and killing them before the enemy does. Once you beat them all you can transfer them to an item with enough POP. Additionally remember that the max level of POP in an item is 8 and the fastest way to level a Legendary Item to POP 8 is making it to floor 30, Kill the Boss there, GENCY OUT (you'll get a POP +1) enter the Item World again, kill the same boss and your population will go up by 1 again.

2nd) There are common statisticians (the one that only level one stat)

Dietician - Increases HP
Master - Increases SP
Gladiator - Increases ATK
Sentry - Increases DEF
Tutor - Increases INT
Physician - Increases RES
Marksman - Increases HIT
Coach - Increases SPD

These specialists max out at 19998.

Dual specialist

Gladiator (ATK) + Marksman (HIT) = Sniper
Gladiator (ATK) + Tutor (INT) = Hard Worker
Gladiator (ATK) + Coach (SPD) = Sprinter
Gladiator (ATK) + Dietician (HP) = Muscleman
Sentry (DEF) + Physician (RES) = Patient
Tutor (INT) + Master (SP) = Nerd

Max out at 19998 but you have to go thru a process to get em (Read the guide we mentioned up here with professorstotch)

And Special Statisticians:
Broker - Increases HL gain
Manager - Increases Mana gain
Mentor - Increases Skill EXP gain
Statistician - Increases EXP gain
They Max out at 300

and there tons more, again everything is in this guide GameFAQs: Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (PS3) FAQ/Walkthrough by Aerius [REF5100]

The fastest way to level your innocents is to dupe (imho)
Lets say you want to level a Gladiator to 19998 and a Stat to 300. You captured a level 30 stat and you have a level 100 Gladiator. By duping you'll get an exact copy of your weapon and that includes innocents...
So if you get a copy that means that you will have a 2x30 St and a 2x100 gladiator. Go to the item world lady, transfer 1x30 st and 1x100 glad to one of the weapons, combine them and you will have a 1x60 St and 1x200 Glad.

With this formula, you will have to dupe 8 times and you'll get 8x300 Stats and 1x19998 Gladiators:

30 - 60 - 120 - 240 - 300 (Maxed) - 2x300 - 4x300 - 8x300 (!)
100 - 200 - 400 - 800 - 1600 - 3200 - 6400 - 12800 - 19998 (!)

I think it got confusing towards the end :P
