This is my first DeathSpank game, and I die, a lot. I'm playing it on normal, and I consider myself a pretty good gamer. But this is ridiculous. What am I doing wrong?

I wouldn't worry about it - I died a lot in this game as well, primarily from the abundance of ranged attacks.

If you haven't done this already, use the charged range attack. It's really powerful in this game.

If you can get the timing down for doing reflections, use that as well. Deflecting ranged attacks is a very powerful technique.

I figured it was something to do with better blocking, didn't really think of the charged range attack though. What is a good way to figure out what elemental attack to use? It is difficult to figure it out unless it is plainly obvious (like fighting high up in the mountains...).

I could never figure out the elemental weakness resistance stuff. However, the help hints do say the following

Ice <-> Fire
Nature <-> Death
