Default Don Difficulty Video Walkthrough

Here is a link to a full walkthrough from a New Game on the hardest setting with full commentary. It's not the most challenging, but this should aid anyone having issue. (it's played on an xbox, but there won't be any real difference)

TheSeraphim17's Channel - YouTube

Hope it helps

Thanks for the link! I caved this weekend and bought the game, but I'm doing a playthrough on Easy first and on top of that, I won't have too much time to play this week... but I bet I'll end up having a look when I get around to my Don playthrough.

Haven't seen a lot of parts that might prove too difficult on Don yet. Only the opening sequence has me slightly worried, because you don't have your powers there and it's sort of a shooter on rails for a minute, with lots of enemies shooting at you while you have limited control of Jackie.

The Don has been really easy, almost too easy, for me also. I did die twice early on but that was only because I got careless at one part and didn't bother to shoot out the lights, then proceeded to run into the room without reloading and managed to die. And the second time was a similar situation where I was just dumb. After that I haven't died since, I'm just up to the carnaval part and both bosses so far have been cake. Thought the second one was going to give me problems yet I blew through him with no issues.

Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!

So I've started Don difficulty on New Game+ and for the life of me, I cannot beat the first fight. How pathetic is that, huh?

I knew it was going to be hard when I played it the first time around, because I'm still not good enough with first-person shooter mechanics using a controller, but I literally died a dozen times within 20 seconds after the first firefight starts and I hadn't expected it to be that bad.

My problem is that no matter what you do, you'll always lose half your health before you even get a clear shot at anybody. I noticed you had the same thing happen to you in the walkthrough video. But me, I cannot get past the second area where the two guys immediately open fire on you (one in the foreground, one in the back behind a table), because the on-rails shooting part has the camera swinging wildly so the Aim Assist (which I've turned on for the Don difficulty) is useless and I cannot take these enemies down fast enough.

I've finished games like Call of Duty: MW2 and Black Ops on Veteran without much problems, but I got through those by being extremely cautious, always being in cover and taking no risks. And since this first part of The Darkness II is completely on rails, there's nothing I can do: I'm fully exposed and it's all about the twitch skills with the controller.

I'll try again and my plan is to keep trying until attempt number 50... but I'm not looking forward to this. Now I remember why I hate on-rails parts in FPS games.

The first part I nearly died on but after that the game is just too easy on Don. If you use the zooming to aim it should somewhat lock onto whoever is closest to the reticle most of the time. Its not perfect but it seemed to do that for me most of the time, unless I just had good aim but it didn't feel like I was aiming that much.

I tried quickly aiming down the sights to get that autolock to activate, but most of the time, the fact that Jackie is being dragged away almost immediately takes the "soft lock" off again, so I'll end up shooting just to the left of the enemies. Tried it another ten times this morning and I actually managed to kill the first two enemies in that second area a few times, but of course, there's at least four and possibly six more coming in behind them and so far, they've always killed me.

This is going to be a long ride.

Thought it was pretty easy on Don, only difficult-ish part was the ballroom part near the end just died a few times there but other then that pretty straight forward!

Tried another 15 times yesterday evening and I still cannot pass this opening fight. If it wasn't so frustrating, it would be funny. This is exactly why I hate on-rails parts in first-person shooters at the hardest difficulty: they're not about skill, they're all about getting lucky.

And to think I could've spent all that time playing Mass Effect 3.

Maybe I'll try a maximum of 10 more times today, but after that, I'm not wasting my time on this anymore. I've never played a game where I couldn't get past the very first fight and it's seriously influencing my opinion of this game.
