The Youtuber Epicnamebro have set up this challenge.

Anyone up for the challenge? I, myself is up to Sen's fortress with a lvl 1 Pyromancer. But I fear my playthrough will come to an end at either Ornstein and Smough or Four Kings. If you thought that regular Dark Souls was hard.... |

Kudos if you can pull this off. This is truly hardcore, it's ok to do the game without pyromancy but if you also remove elemental weapons and the ability to switch armors/shields you are making this game way too hard.

Nah. This challenge is a cinch if you go Warrior, Knight, or Bandit and get your starting weapon Divine ASAP. Naturally you HAVE to use Covenant of Artorias and Charred Orange Ring when traversing The Abyss and Lost Izalith, respectively. For particular battles, reverting your weapon back to Raw is essential so you can apply various Resins to it.
The downside to these challenges is when you apply a restriction to one area, it simply opens up abuses in other areas. Since you can't level or change your gear, you'll have AMPLE souls to buy stones and apply upgrades to your gear whenever you need it. It's still a brilliant idea, of course. But maybe it seems a bit too easy to me because I've beaten the game with the "standard SL1 challenge" already... =/

^Agreed, I bought lots of resins, and fire bombs, but I haven't really used any of them yet. I dont get what you mean by you have to use the covenant of artorias? Rings is the only equipment which we can use without restrictions.
Thr good thing about this challange, is that you really get to learn how different techniques you need to use with the different classes. I Was hoping people would join with different classes, so we could compare notes to which class fits best with which player. I went with the pyromancer since I felt that It would give me an egde at the start of the game, which it has. Obviously, not being able to upgrade the pyromancy glove mean that I have to rely on my hand axe most of the time, however power within and the lingering dragon crest ring will help me greatly against Ornstein and Smough . One downside to the pyromancer is the horrible shield, however it can be made up for by two handing, plues the low weight equipment means the fastest rolling speed. One thing I've learned is how good I am at the game, The stray demon which usually gives allot of trouble with my regular characters, I beat on my first try yesterday. Sometimes, the no healing rule can save you, since you dont have to stop up to heal and get hit while healing resulting in death. |

It gets more interesting the more you think about it outside of your comfort zone. I pointed out how easily it can be obtained with a Knight/Warrior/Bandit, but why not try a Wanderer? Or (like ENB) a Hunter? Without a doubt, the only real tests of this challenge are Orn/Smo and Gwyn. At the "intended levels" that they're usually faced, neither are much of a challenge, but for lower level character, both battles are exceedingly deadly. My biggest regret it that I don't have any methods of video capture, so while I can participate in the challenge, I can never post my results and be officially accepted as one of the "winners"... =( No, it really won't... Bear in mind the "no healing during boss fights" rule. And, by default, the duration of Power Within is longer than the time it will take your HP Bar to deplete and kill you. So whether or not you were wearing the Lingering Dragoncrest Ring, the fight would be decided by your ability to not take any damage and kill them before you died to your own spell.

Stacking humanity will really boost your defense. I didn't see anything in the rules against that.
Rat farming will make this easier. Kindle bonfires. You're only allowed to not heal for bosses. Ring of Sacrifice to avoid losing humanity. I PvPed in the forest in bandit gear while pretending to be one of the bandits in the forest. Last edited by Kahalachan; 04-16-2012 at 01:14 AM. |
