Default Some questions about patches and game's functionality

I just started playing this game this week again and I am only at the 2nd bell. I've been doing everything offline (solo) but my buddy has already beaten the game 3 times with 3 different characters (he is making for PvPing).

Did the patches fix the online issues with the game? And by that I mean the ability to actually hook up with someone on your PSN list (and not a random) to play the game with?

And 2nd, is it possible to drop and trade items like in Demon's Souls? My friend already has best weapons through a number of reinforcements if I am able to get him into my game and if he drops those weapons would the trophies pop? Or if I missed a rare item like a weapon from chopping off a bosses tail?

I know this sounds cheap or like cheating but I did Demon's Legit back in the day before I was a trophy hunter and I put 300+ hours into leveling characters and equipment alone and another who knows how many hours into PvPing. I don't have the time to do that again.

It was never supposed to be that way, so there's nothing to "fix".
You can hook up with people on your friendslist, it's just to plan it a little, starting a chatroom on PSN helps a lot. No need to play offline, just play in hallow form to avoid getting invaded, and the only downside as far as I'm concerned to it is not being invaded by offline NPC black phantoms. You don't have half health or something like in Demon's Souls. They have fixed some stuff with the online play, to make it work better, but as I said earlier, what you request has never been a goal, and won't happen.

Yes, you can trade like in Demon's Souls.

You really are supposed to do 2 and a half playthrough as well. Though, personally it took me about 2 hours to do the last half playthrough. The second could I easily have managed to do in 10 hours or so, but I was going around doing all kinds of stuff I didn't need to do. First playthrough probably takes 20 hours if you want to explore a little, probably more if you love the game. My tip is that you can just run past most enemies in the game.

Thanks for the reply. Well you had to coordinate summonings in Demon's Souls as well. I heard that you couldn't readily summon a friend because of P2P or different servers or something. But if I am at X Bonfire and I tell my friend to drop their signal there I should be able to see it (assuming they don't get summoned by someone else first) and summon them?

To answer your question with some few words, it's not that simple.
You should read this page, as it will explain it all to you:

It's still the same. People are on different servers, but the patch did allow soul signs to jump around servers more it's a lot easier to get a summon than it was previously. So I'd say the patch has increased the chance of finding your friend's sign. Still isn't a guarantee though.

Demon's Souls you could see your friends sign immediately when they dropped it because everyone was on the same dedicated server rather than a bunch of crappy random servers..

co-op with friends take patience and co-ordination. given that you're within the co-op level range... and it's also supposed to be helpful for both of you, to belong in a co-op covenant (Way of White, Princess' Guard, Warriors of Sunlight)

read this thread for an awesome method to ease the process:
Demon's Souls Wiki Forums Thread - Method to co-op with friends

my best tip though... is to have the sign HIDDEN somewhere, instead of it being out in the open. put the sign under a breakable object, around a quiet corner etc... would reduce the chance of being summoned by a random player.

if you're summoned by a random, just bow and use the Black Separation Crystal. might help to send them a friendly PSN msg via "Players Met"... just so they won't try summon you again

if the sign can be seen, but summoning keeps failing... then both of you should restart the game

Has it been confirmed that you can acquire spell/pyromancies/miracles/weapons throughout numerous characters and the trophies will still unlock?

Like I am on playthrough 1 with my first character but I missed buying 2 pyromancies from Laurentius. Instead of going into NG+ and finding him again to buy them can I just start a new character and purchase the last 2 I need from him on the new character and the trophy will unlock?

This is what makes me not wanna do this game. I wish the online was like DeS. I love doing Coop with people I know as you can Coop in your way. But with randoms the enjoyment just aint good enough. I may wait at a later date when the popularity calms down. If it make a difference I'm not sure hehehe.

if you read trophy description for pyromancy/sourcery/miracles, they simply say "acquired all". so, YES you can use separate characters to obtain the trophy... but the character still needs to have the complete set of pyromancy/sourcery/miracles, whatever they're collecting.

this means you can't have multiple characters with a few spells from each, and expect them all to accumulate and count towards those trophies.

is that clear?
