Story: 10
simply GREAT story which includes many characters in the game Gameplay: 9.5 Awesome combat and stealth with different bosses and each one is different in fighting and the way to beat him as well as the riddler challenges are NOT boring as I expected, for sure they have done a great job for what supposed to a boring collectables comparing it to other games collectables (e.g. prototype, inFamous ... etc) Controls: 9 Good controls easy to learn and get use to Graphics: 9.5 Sound: 9 Wow Factor: 10 Replay Value: 9.5 There are challenges which are REALLY REALLY challenging but great Multiplayer Experience: N/A Rent Or Buy This Game? Of course a Buy Final Score: 9.5 ... I didn't think that the game would be as good as it is for a comic superhero game or a movie game which at best produce an acceptable game but this game is one of the best games I have played on PS3 Last edited by SpursNumber77; 09-07-2009 at 06:07 PM. |

Story: 8 - Well done, but there are some parts in the story that are just silly. Overall, it's solid.
Gameplay: 9 - I thought it would get repetitive when I played the demo, but it really was fun and varied. A batmobile scene would have been cool, and the bosses didn't need to all follow the "3 rounds" formula. Controls: 8 - Pretty intuitive, but I wish they were just a bit more customizable. There are only 2 options, and they're basically the same. Graphics: 9 - Not the best graphics I've seen on the PS3, but pretty close. Just a few scenes where things looked a little off. Sound: 6. This music was good and added to the mood. The repetitive dialogue was incredibly annoying, annoying enough to mark it down. Wow Factor: 8 Replay Value: 7 - The challenge rooms are there, I guess, but I probably won't go back to this game for a while (I played through it twice). Multiplayer Experience: N/A Rent Or Buy This Game? Buy Your Personal Verdict & Your Final Score: 8/10

Story: 8 The story is great, but like the beggining, how Joker escapes can be better, not just his head pounding into the guards chest, and how he gets away is pretty lame, but otherwise pretty good story.
Gameplay: 10 Best superhero game ever! All I need to say, but to expand, The moves, though they can get a little old, the sound, graphics, story, all combine for a beastly game. Controls: 8 Again, I am never huge with controls, I will catch on every now and then, but the trophy for all combo things, that can be a pain, if the controls were easier, maybe the trophy would be too. I can struggle with square and X/triangle and circle at the same time, but it's better than MOST games. Graphics: 10 AWESOME!!! Again not much to say with graphics, as well as the scenes, the scenes (not cutscenes, but in-game play) where people get killed is on the verge of M, but not my point. My point is that The way they went about all of that and turned into a kickass graphic game, now that's talent. Sound: 8 Pretty realistic, not great, the guns and all, but the best is the screaming, that is what makes the sound and 8, how realistic they are. I mean, honestly, I would sound like that too, though I wouldn't admit it (Damn I just did). Wow Factor: 10This is the a game that is THAT close from being M. This has nothing to do with it, it just makes me say wow. The moves can be stall eventually, but they are awesome, and even though there may be stall moves, the Joker adds on to those moves, so I wouldn't say all stall moves. Replay Value: 10 Like I said below (rent or buy) I would play this over and over again. Multiplayer Experience: N/A Rent Or Buy This Game? BUY, I think this game is so worth it, and the fact that I personally would play this over and over again so buy it. Story: 9 - I love the story, being able to explore Arkham Island and meeting up with a lot of Batman's villains and still making it believable and fun. The ones that are not met in the game, get a presentation in the character bios, usually from a riddle which is solved. This is also a good touch. The story is a bit short though.
Gameplay: 9 - I love the gameplay, the game is realy fun and entertaining. The mix between combat and stealth is awesome. And I didn't get bored for even a second. The only thing that keeps it away from the 10 is the riddles. Don't get me wrong I think they're great and probably the best collectibles ever, but I would like to be more challenged in solving them. Location wise I got challenged on some, but I would have liked more challenging puzzles. Controls: 10 - I had no trouble at all. Everything buttonpress did its duty and the camera was always great. One of the best flowing games when it comes to controls and camera. Graphics: 9 - Mostly excellent, nothing I can put my finger on. Sound: 10 - I give it a 10 just for the outstanding voice acting, one of the best I've ever heard. Wow Factor: 10 - I WOWed through most of the game ![]() Replay Value: 7.5 - Usually I never replay the story mode in Single Player games if I can play on the hardest setting right away. This is probably a game that I will play through the story mode again on though. The Combat/Predator Challenges are also fun. This is the only singleplayer game that I can see myself playing after I platinum. But I still won't play it a lot after I platinum it so it doesn't get more than 7.5 from me, but that is huge for a single player game (that is not an RPG )Rent Or Buy This Game? - I don't rent, but if I could rent, I would still BUY this monster of a game! Your Personal Verdict & Your Final Score: I give it a 9.3 This is one of the best third person action/adventure games I've ever played. There are 3 things that could be done to make it a 10 for me and those are: - A longer story mode (maybe double the length) and hereby including more of the villains. - A bit more variation in the henchmen - Harder puzzles incorporated in the Riddles. I'll be quick...
Story: 10 A fantastic story! The Scarecrow parts are particularly frightening. Great ending as well! Gameplay: 10 I love the combat/combo system. I found myself looking for inmates and running into the middle of them to fight. Loved it. So many bat toys to play with and all of them work well with the controls. Some nice side scrolling platform action thrown in. Detective mode is almost too good. Controls: 9 No real issues with the controls for me. The combo moves are giving me a bit a difficulty, but I haven't had time to perfect my 'moves' in any of the challenges yet. I'm sure I'll tighten up after playing for the medals. One of the dumb things I chose to forget about was the zoom. The game shows you how to use it, but I forgot about it during the game. I found a bunch of tablets, and answers to riddles, but didn't zoom in so I never got the "you've solved it!" back. Didn't I feel like an idiot. ![]() Graphics: 8.5 Graphics are great! Just dark enough for a Batman game. It's no GT5, but I didn't want it to be. The graphics are exactly how you want them to be in a superhero game, especially one starting the Dark Knight. Sound: 8 Sound effects were good. Especially in Croc's Lair. Scared the pants off me. Music was a little lacking, but still a solid 8. Wow Factor: 10 Hugh wow factor for me. Enjoyed every bit of this game. I often found myself completing an area, solving a puzzle, using a bat toy, or defeating an end boss and thinking "That was fricken' awesome!" Replay Value: 9 Definitely some replay here. I played through on Normal mode, so I can try again on Hard play through. Plus there are a ton of riddles and puzzles to find. Not to mention all the bat toy weapons to collect, and challenge/predator modes. Multiplayer Experience: Nothing here. Can't say I miss it. Rent Or Buy This Game? It's a buy for sure for me. Your Personal Verdict & Your Final Score: Average works out to 9.2 so I'll round down to 9 for the vote. An awesome game! You need to have this one in your collection! Well, I have to say I was very surprised at the quality of this game. I kept trying to rent it to see what all the hype was about but it was always rented...so I went ahead and bought it. Now on to the review.
Story: 8.5 Like FiftyQuid said, the parts with Scarecrow are really good. He is my favorite villan ( in the Batman universe) and I was very happy to see him have such a prominent role in the game. As far as the actual storyline goes though, Joker tries to escape Arkham... wow. Nothing amazing. The storytelling is solid though and you'll enjoy unraveling Arkhams history and of the criminal masteminds it holds. SPOILER ALERT!The only part I found to be extremely lame is when Batman defeated the 2 Titans and then called in the BatWing to drop off 1 count em, 1 gadget. I found myself asking: 1. Why the fcuk didn't he just do that at the beginning and 2. Why not just have ALL the gadgets dropped?! I know I know, then there would be no game but still, a little explanation as to why the BatWing was unavailable up until that point would've gone a long way. END SPOLIER Gameplay 9.0 This is where the game really shines. Usually I dread games that require you to collect a bajillion things of the same thing ad nauseum (like landmarks/hints in Prototype), but I actually had fun collecting everything in this game. The variety of riddles, trophies, etc. was so refreshing. Also, the combo system. After watching some YouTube videos of some people thrashing the combat challenges had me saying "No wonder people like this game so much" However I have yet to master this combat system and I don't know WHY???!!!!!! Some in game tutorials would've been much appreciated. >![]() Which leads to... Controls 8.0 WTF??!!! No jump button! Not a big deal but still..grr ![]() There were several times, to numerous to count where Batman is doing the exact opposite of what I want him to do!!! Getting away from enemies to me was at times a bit difficult. Sometimes I would take cover when I didn't want to, or he wouldn't jump over obstacles or to another gargoyle. That sort of thing. Honestly, pressing a button to get out of cover?! Analog stick down would've been so much more fluid!! Gliding wasn't exactly extremely fun either. BUT since the game is so polished in other areas that these minor annoyances didn't ruin the experience for me at all. Graphics 8.5 Really good graphics, no one should be disappointed here. I loved the animations for the combos, it's just amazing watching someone who knows how to whip some ass in this game. The art style was great, however a little more variation in the enemies appearance would've been nice. The inmates all looked the same. The boss fights are spectacular*, though and the quotes after you die are pretty bada.s as well. *Except for Killer Croc (do you actually fight him?!) That was a let down. But thats a gameplay issue not a graphics one so.. Sound : 9.0 There's not a whole lot of music in the game, at least not enough to notice. Not a big deal really since this doesn't take away from the gameplay. I guess I should say it has just enough at the appropriate times. The sounds for hitting foes, finding/solving riddles are extremely satisfying. Audio from the interview tapes and Arkham Asylum archives are excelent as well. Even the gadgets make really cool noises! Needless to say, the voice acting is what boosts this from what normally would deserve an 8 to the 9 I gave it. Mark Hammil is incredible as the Joker, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Kevin Conroy from the Animated series does Batman. Either way all the voice acting is stellar. Wow Factor : 8.0 Definitely very surprised buy the quality. Replay Value: 7.0 Lets be honset folks, the game is pretty short. Not only that but its on an island so there arent a whole lot of locations to explore and they get old pretty quick so once you complete the game and collect everthing (which is extremely easy considering they give you maps!!) there is little reason to return and make me want to playthrough again. There's no multiplayer and I'm perfectly fine with that but, for that trade off I expect a little more to the story mode. I would've loved to have squared off against more of Batmans' notorious villans, but then who could we fight in the inevitable sequel right? If you're a hardcore Batman fan or gamer then you'll love playing the challenge rooms over and over and over. But if you're just an average trophy collecter like me, than once you get the trophies than you will be throughly satisfied. Multiplayer: N/A aside from leaderboards for challenge rooms. Buy or Rent: to me its a rent, speaking from a trophy hunter point of view. If you're a collecter or hardcore Batman fan, you will have no qualms shelling out $60 hard earned dollars to have this in your collection. Otherwise, if you're highly skilled at chaining combos and have a day or two to kill, you can easily obtain the platinum in one rental. I, on the other hand, totally suck balls at this so it will remain in my collection for quite some time until I can master the combat .After playing it, I think I could've waited for this to have gone down some in price or appear on a certain game trading website (rhymes with GooseEggs). Its worth every penny of $40 but for $60 I was wishing the fun would've lasted longer .Final Score : 8.0 A solid 8. Definitely an above average game just not too much above. There you have it, take it with a grain of salt.

Fantastic game, definite keeper. There are three particular rooms I hated (I bet you all know which three), and the boss battles were a mixed bag. That said, this is a keeper, probably going to be the only go-to Batman game I'll have for years. I'd be afraid of a sequel, but it seems like it'd be a waste for them not to reuse the combat/game engines. Only if they think they can do it right though.
This was my first experience with this kind of brawler system, and it was fantastic. Challenging, yes, but fantastic, and as rewarding as excelling at any shooter or RPG. I hope this accomplishment with Arkham Asylum catches hold as a standard of quality. It'll be interesting to see if Assassin's Creed 2 plays as well (never played AC1).

Story: 5
Boring and predictable short story that spends too much time plugging in famous batman villains for a brief period of time and then jumping to the next. Gameplay: 6 Combat system in the game is not fun and doesn't really require much timing, you can mash square and change your move almost immediately without any consequence for having mashed the button. Often times you get caught by the end of a pipe or jump awkwardly and get stunned. It's a frustrating system that doesn't effect the campaign mode but makes playing the challenges pointless. The better parts of the gameplay are the stealth mode and gadgets, but it never feels fun using the gadgets, only systematic. Also boss fights in the game are terrible. Controls: 7 No jump button, dropping down to a ledge is awkward requiring you to crouch and then hit a button. The aforementioned combat system is a headache. Walking around and using the camera is fine though. Graphics: 7.5 The graphics are pretty but the level design is poor and awkward. Also it's a very small environment to play in which makes the game nauseating after playing for long periods of time. Sound: 5 Annoying Joker and Riddler seem to never shut up which takes away from an otherwise good voice acting job for most characters. Wow Factor: 6 Although I felt the gadgets could have been better used in the game, I was surprised they even attempted to use as many of them in the game as they did. With that said, you don't get to drive the batmobile, there's not much happening in the story and the game is too short. If you are amazed, it won't be for long. Replay Value: 0 You can beat the game and go back to get all the hidden items in one day. The Combo and Predator challenges aren't fun. Multiplayer Experience: No cheap multiplayer plugin like in Uncharted 2, well done. Rent Or Buy This Game? I bought it and regret it, most overhyped mediocre game since Valkyria Chronicles. Your Personal Verdict & Your Final Score: 7 Not a bad game just not what it's hyped to be. It's a decent video game with Batman in it... for me that doesn't make a great game.
