the reason that i can't plat this game is because of these combat challeges >.<
i just don't understand how you are suposts to do the latter ones, i just keep getting hit by the guys with the shock battons meh i gave up with the plat because of this, but i don't think i will be coming back to this game maybe if i have nothing to do but we will have to see ^^

Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who posted helpful tips in this thread. Got my platinum trophy last night, and I very much doubt I could have without the advice.
There's not much I can add that hasn't already been said, but still, these things helped me: - Get most/a hefty amount of points in the first round of each challenge. It's not unreasonable to expect a near-perfect first round, which should have a full variation bonus and at least one very sizeable combo. By racking up the points early, it makes the latter rounds much more comfortable. - Take your time, and think one move ahead. Even in the timed challenges, it's better to plan your progress rather than fire away as quick as you can. Otherwise you'll only end up punching a baton or knife holding enemy, and breaking your combo. - Where there's a titan, use him to your advantage. Jump on their back and knock enemies about for silly combos. Especially if there are two titans - you can easily make each one beat the other up by alternately jumping on them. Of course be sure to batarang and evade if they charge you, then work your way over to them, whilst being mindful of nearby enemies. - Get the hard ones out the way early. This may not work for everyone, but I did Shock and Awe Extreme fairly early, just to get it done, and it made the others seem SO much easier by comparison, including the other Extreme challenges. It just stops you over-worrying about the really hard challenges, and you won't believe the difference it makes when you go back to a challenge with no time limit. It's like a godsend. - Generally, pace yourself, switch your moves up, get ground takedowns but don't get greedy. Similarly use your instant takedowns and throws when you can, but look for an opportune moment. E.g. for a knife or baton enemy. It doesn't matter if you use up another one or two critical hits before you do a special. - Use your batclaw and batarang to thin crowds if need be. Be sure to only tap L1 for the batarang. Double-pressing will break your combo. Batclawing three people at the start of most rounds and pulling them towards you is usually a very good way to start a combo going with 3 or 4 clean hits (even if you grab a knife/baton enemy, because it pulls them off guard). The exception being rounds that start with a titan steaming towards you. - Get in to the habit of evading lots. Forward, backward, to the side. Twice in a row if necessary. Whatever helps you take stock of what's around you and stops you getting overwhelmed. Best of luck for anyone attempting these.

After reading many replies on different ways to go about combat trials, i vastly improved my combos. I concentrated on doing just first round perfects , no 9 combo bonus, just using baterangs and ground take downs. Going for knife/stun guys first. Just trying to get as big as combos as i could, using baterangs to control crowd and keep getting massive points that way.
I must of spent 5 or more hours in sewer bat extreme for third bat. Once i did that, i went into shock and awe extreme and beat it 2nd try. First try i reset first round cause it wasnt a perfect. I only went for points first round and last 3 i just tried to make it to end and finish, and did. Never went back to tempt fate. Rumble, i tried a number of times to get a solid first round and kept finishing 44k, 45k ish over and over. Then i just ignored points and tried to just keep killing while on back of guys and points just came np.

I finally completed shock and awe extreme and got my plat. I spent over four hours trying to get a high enough score and end all the rounds. More than five times I had the required amount going into the fourth round, and I still lost because of that freaking time limit.
My thanks goes out to all who post in these threads for the help. I read countless forum threads and watched videos to complete these challenges. My advice to anyone trying to complete the combats is to learn how to do all of the moves and find a pattern to executing them. Another is to try and get as high a score as possible on the first two rounds, if you don't, just start over. One thing that I discovered that I rarely see mentioned is the importance of critical hits. These hits made all the difference for me on shock and awe extreme. They increase your combo by two and enable you to get takedowns faster. Good luck to all.

Right i finally got my platinum the past Monday after beating Rumble in the Jungle Extreme.
I did this by getting a variation 9 (In round 1), variation 8 (In round 2), another variation 8 (In round 3), and finally in round 4 i got another variation 9. On top of that i also got a couple of 20-30+ hit combo's aswell. Last edited by Green Lantern; 01-31-2010 at 12:26 PM. |

whoa, these combat challenges are A LOT harder than I thought they would be.
I just passed Intensive Treatment (the normal one) after like 2 hours of trying... slowing getting better at the combat in this game though.. getting some high combos + ground takedowns = key to winning. hope I don't have to abandon this plat, I really want it.
