EA publishes Rock Band while Harmonix makes them. Activision publishes Guitar Hero while Neversoft makes them.

It used to be that Guitar Hero was made by Harmonix and published by Red Octane. Activision made the absolutely idiotic mistake of buying Red Octane along with the rights to the Guitar Hero name, while Harmonix left to EA. As a result, all Activision has now is the name - all the talent went into Rock Band. This left Neversoft to take over development duties for the Guitar Hero franchise. You may remember Neversoft making the Tony Hawk skateboarding games, Skeleton Warriors, Spider-Man, Gun, and various other games that have absolutely nothing what-so-ever to do with music or rhythm games.

Although, honestly, all Activision needs is the name. Most people will gladly buy anything with the GH name attached and wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Rock Band is much better yes, that's for sure. GH5 was an improve on the GH series for the first time since GH2 though.

Anyway, I was thinking about getting this, but I'm not sure there is enough songs I like to make it worth it, even though it looks like a very easy plat to get.

My understanding is Band Hero is meant for younger and new players to the series and is meant to be easier for people to play.

The rock band instruments do work. You just won't be able to get the Tutorial trophy with them because to complete the drum tutorial, you need a GH drum kit.

Why do you need the GHWT drums? I play on a "custom" kit made from the core RB2 drumkit. Is it the "brain" module? Double bass? I just can't see myself having two plastic drum kits sitting around just for trophies... Maybe I could, but I don't really want to pay for another when the one I have works just fine...

The GH games recognise if you're playing with a GH kit or a RB kit. If you're using a RB kit, it switches to using four pads instead of the normal five pads that you have on a GH kit. That's why you can't complete the drum tutorial with the RB kit.
