Introduction:

Great Scott! Our favorite time travelling partners from the mid 80's return to us for some more temporal adventures in Episode 4: Double Visions!. This series is made by the creators of the "Sam and Max" games, Telltale Games, it will come to us in 5 different episodes each released a month apart from each other. This guide/walkthrough covers the fourth episode. The first thing I would like to mention is that I would highly suggest not using a walkthrough to play for the first time through, as it is much more fun to play through the game and figure things out on your own. If you are mindful of what the missable trophies are and when and how to get them, you can easily play through this game and get 100% in one playthrough without following a walkthrough. However, I realize that there are some of you who want to get through it as fast as possible, or simply be absolutely sure they don't miss anything, so for these people a walkthrough is provided under "To the Expo" (G).

If you plan on playing this without the walkthrough, take note of the missable trophies to make sure you can get 100% in this game in one fell swoop. Before showing Edna the Trixie postcard, be sure to check it for yourself for "There's A Moose?" (B). Make sure not to leave Emmett's Lab without getting "Edna Was Right!" (B), the final Algae Cake for "Let Them Eat, Um, Cake" (B), "A Not-So-Beautiful Mind" (B), and "An Uncomfortable Truth" (B) Also, make sure to only visit Emmett's Lab one time until the game forces you to return, for "Timely Traveler" (B). As long as you take note of these trophies, you can play without the walkthrough and still get 100%, but the walkthrough is there in case it is need.

A few notes about how the walkthrough is set up, which is the same as the walkthrough for Part 1, 2, and 3:

  • Dialog (_____): __________ This denotes a conversation taking place in the game. The first blank inside the brackets shows who you are talking to, and the second blank shows which conversational option you should choose to unlock a trophy/progress in the game. If the second blank shows "Any" you are welcome to choose whichever choice you like, the outcome will be the same.
  • Trophy: _________ Unlocked! This shows at what points each trophy should unlock during the story line.
  • Walk ___________ This is to tell you where you need to take Marty to in order to obtain a trophy/progress through the game. Remember that you can hold :circle: to make Marty run. The directions I provide when referring to the town square are in the form of cardinal directions (north, east, south, west) and they are all taken from the center of town square. This means that the courthouse is on the east side, the police station is on the west, etc. Remember whenever I give a direction like east or west it is referring to east or west from the center of town. Directions like right or left refer to directions from the point where you are standing.
  • Interact with ________ To interact with something you simply need to highlight it and press :cross: When "Interact with _________ (With ______ equipped)." is shown, that means you need to equip that item before interacting with the specified object.
  • :square: Use Item __________ to equip. Pressing :square: opens up your inventory. Now you need to scroll over to the item specified in the blank spot and click :cross: to "Use Item", or more simply put, equip it.
  • :circle: To exit. This is simple. Whenever this is shown in the walkthrough it means that we are done with this conversation or location. Pressing :circle: will exit the conversation or leave the area so that you can continue.

Step 1: Play Through The Game.

The first thing I recommend you do is simply play through the game. Whether you are using the walkthrough or not, this will earn you a fair percentage of the trophies. Be sure to watch out for the missable ones: "There's A Moose?" (B), "Edna Was Right!" (B), "Let Them Eat, Um, Cake" (B), "A Not-So-Beautiful Mind" (B), "An Uncomfortable Truth" (B), "Timely Traveler" (B). As long as you know what to look out for you can get these trophies even without following a step-by-step walkthrough. See them in the trophy guide to find out when, where, and how to unlock them. If you aren't using the walkthrough and you get stuck, pressing :triangle: will open up a hint menu, then you can press :cross: to reveal more hints. The hint level can be increased from the options menu to make them even more blatant about what you should do. This has no effect on the game, or the trophies, so feel free to abuse the hints as much as you like. If you watched out for and achieved all of the missable trophies, then once you finish this step you should have 100% of the trophies. If you missed something move on to step 2.

Step 2 (Optional): Clean Up Playthrough

If you happened to miss a trophy here or there, now is the time to start a new game and track it down. Upon completing this step, you will now have 100% of the trophies.

Trophy Guide

(Trophies listed in the order that they unlock when following my walkthrough.)

Escaped from Marty's Cell.

This trophy is story related and unmissable.

[spoiler=a] This will unlock after using your dad and Jennifer's help to get you out of your cell. Start by using the intercom and asking the guard if you can see your stuff. Now look out the window above the poster to see Jennifer in the cell next to yours. Use the Squawk Box to contact your father and ask him if you can talk to Jennifer. Exit this conversation and talk to your dad again. Tell him you were trying to look over the guard's shoulder, but he was too tall. Your dad will review the footage and tell you the code to the locker with your guitar in it.

Now that you have your trusty guitar, equip it and interact with the Squawk Box to break Jennifer free of the spell. She will open your door and free you, and your trophy will unlock.

Rescued Citizen Brown from the Citizen Plus Program.

This trophy is story related and unmissable.

[spoiler=b] You will get this trophy after breaking Doc out of the Citizen Plus building. After Jennifer frees you from your cell, you next goal is to help Doc. Start by taking control of the control panel (Use Biff's pill to knock out the guard on duty), and turning up the volume. Next, turn up the olfactory senses, which will cause Edna and the other guard to go down and try to fix it. Enter the room that they were just in and equip your guitar. Interact with the microphone and your trophy will unlock as soon as this scene ends.

Get a Good Look at Trixie's Postcard

*Missable* Once you are able to talk to Cueball over at his truck, you have to ask him all of the questions related to Trixie for him to give you the postcard of Trixie. Now before showing this post card to Edna, first open up your inventory and press :square: to view it. Once that has been done, your trophy will unlock.

Revealed Hill Valley Hooliganism Rate

*Missable* Once in Emmett's lab, examine the stack of Mind Maps on the desk. You must examine them 2/3 times, and Emmett will tell you that 90% of the people in Hill Valley were found to be hooligans through his test. Once Emmett mentions this, your trophy will unlock. *Thanks to PsychoRaven for the tip!*

Offered Algae Cakes to Everyone

*Missable* After Cueball has given you the postcard of Trixie, talk to him again and ask him what is wrong with his teeth, twice. This will cause him to Give you a box of Algae cakes. Now you must simply give one to everyone. You will need to equip them, then interact with:

--Cueball

--"Guy"

--Edna

--Arthur

--Trixie

--Doc

--Emmett.

After offering the Algae Cake to the last person, the trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/841/10.jpgA Not-So-Beautiful Mindhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Crafted a Mind Map of Emmett that Reveals him to be a 'Degenerate Criminal.'

*Missable* While getting a new Mind Map for Emmett is story related, ensuring that the Mind Map reveals him to be a Degenerate Criminal, is not. The goal of this puzzle here is to make Emmett react badly to the images that a good and proper, and have Emmett get happy for the images that are supposedly bad. The lights on Emmett's helmet indicate his mood. Red means bad mood, or unhappy. Yellow is neutral, and Green is happy or good mood. Once you turn on the switch for the Mind Map, a variety of images will be shown. Basically your objective is to get him to react like a criminal. For example, and image of a police officer shows up, something that is supposed to make him happy, you need to interact with the environment around him to turn the light red, then switch to a new picture.

The images shown and their correct responses:

Edna --------------- Red Light

John Wilkes Booth --- Green Light

Officer Parker ------- Red Light

Tannen ------------- Green Light

Child ---------------- Red Light

Trixie --------------- Green Light

Incorrectly choosing a light color/mood can result in a Mind Map that doesn't place Emmett as a Degenerative Criminal, thus no trophy.

There are various ways of influencing Emmett's mood.

  • Fish Tank Valve (Negative/Red)
  • Generator (Negative/Red)
  • Algae Cake (Negative/Red)
  • Record Player (Positive/Green)
  • Stew Pot (Positive/Green)

All you must do now is use these different interactions to alter Emmett's mood accordingly.

Emmett is Prophetically Honest About his Marriage Prospects.

*Missable* As you are about to leave Emmett's Lab, he makes a comment about proposing to Edna. Interact with him and choose the following dialog.

"You're supposed to marry someone else!"

Got Trixie to Make Edna Jealous

This trophy is story related and cannot be missed.

[spoiler=c] The first thing you need to do is get the post card of Trixie from Cueball and show it to Edna. This will make Trixie so mad that she is willing to help you. She says she needs a photo album of Emmett, a diamond, and some fur. The fur can be gotten from the caveman at the "Hill Valley of the Past" booth, after returning with Emmett's cleanser spray bottle. The photo album can be found in Emmett's Lab after inspecting the easel. The diamond (or prism) can be found at the "Hill Valley of the Future" booth. Use the 3rd and 4th buttons from the right at the same time to knock the prism loose. Once you have all of these items, take them to Trixie to unlock this trophy.

Refer to the Trophy Walkthrough under "To The Expo!" (G), for more.

Messed with Emmett's Cleanser.

This trophy is story related and unmissable.

[spoiler=d] This will unlock after using the DeLorean to age the Cleanser bottle. Start out by taking the cleanser bottle from Emmett's Lab, then return to the DeLorean. Place the bottle in the DeLorean and take note that the light is green. Tell Doc, who will then test out the time machine, aging it 9 hours. Wait a moment until the light is green again, then tell Doc to try once more. Doc will fire up the time machine and when he returns, the Cleanser will be properly aged, and your trophy will unlock.

Take the Fewest Possible Trips to Emmett's Lab

*Missable* To unlock this trophy you can only visit Emmett's lab 1 time prior to aging the Cleanser Bottle and having Trixie ready to make Edna jealous. After these events happen, you will automatically be brought there in a cutscene, bringing the total up to 2. If you visited the lab more than once before this takes place, you will not be able to get this trophy. Since you can only visit the lab once before this event, be sure to do the following things:

  • Pick up the oil can and the spray bottle.
  • Get the photo album by examining the Easel.
  • Get the "Edna Was Right!" trophy.
  • Get the "A Not-So-Beautiful Mind" trophy.
  • Offer an Algae Cake to Emmett, for the "Let Them Eat, Um, Cake" trophy.
  • Get the "An Uncomfortable Truth" trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/841/03.jpgBreaking Up is Hard to Dohttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Broke up Emmett and Edna.

This trophy is story related and cannot be missed.

[spoiler=e] To get this trophy, you must convince Edna to break up with Emmett by making her jealous (Trixie), making her think Emmett is a slob (Tampering with the Cleanser Bottle), and making her think Emmett is a criminal (Altering Emmett's Mind Map.). Once these three tasks have been completed, Edna will break up with Emmett, and you will earn this trophy.

Gave Emmett his Epiphany.

This trophy is story related and unmissable.

[spoiler=f]After Edna breaks Emmett's heart, you will follow him to the courthouse. Choose the following dialog options to bring about his epiphany:

  • Any.
  • Any.
  • Any.
  • "You care about inventing!"
  • "Um."
  • "You care about me!"
  • "No."
  • "I did it for the hell of it."
  • "You're Delusional!"

After those options have been selected, Emmett will have an epiphany, and you will have a new trophy.

There are some things missing in the walkthrough part of the guide.

The part where you are making Emmets score card you actually have to turn the valve first so his hat is red lighted before you advance the slide.

Every slide that is good or something Emmet would like you must turn the valve to make the red light light up before you advance the slide. For bad things you must use the soup pot. I think it's just two steps missing there.

Also, where you tell Emmet that he can't marry Edna, at least in my game, I had to do the conversation piece about how was him and his dad getting along before that conversation piece would show up. I wasn't able to scroll below that or anything. May of been some sort of glitch, but that did make it show up.

Great guide though since this game only came out yesterday.

The only hard trophy was A Not-So-Beautiful Mind because it was tedious and it'd hurt Time Traveller. Other than that, not really difficult.

I don't like where the story is going though.

Really? I actually kind of like it myself. For the first time you're exploring the ramifications your actions have on others who don't share your reality. That's something I actually wish the movies had explored a bit.

I've tested the walkthrough on another account and everything went perfectly for me, so perhaps you made some mistake? The way I have it, on the first picture (Edna), you offer him the algae cake to change his mood to red, then advance the slide. The next picture (JWB), you activate the Stew to get his mood to green, then advance the slide again. The next picture, (Officer Parker) you use the Valve twice to change the mood to red, and then just repeat this process. Idk what when wrong when you did it, but that worked perfectly for me. I'll go through it again once more to confirm, but im 99% sure that what I have works..

As for the conversation about marrying Edna, I never asked him about his father, so must be a glitch or something.

Yea how that puzzle works is this. He has 3 states Green, Yellow, Red. You have 2 positive influencers and 2 or 3 if you have the algae cakes, negative influencers.

He naturally starts out yellow. Your goal based on the picture is to get either a negative or positive response. If he's already in a negative or positive state you have to use two of the influencers to get him to the opposite state. Note that once you change the slide he usually reverts back to yellow. Exceptions to this is when you're using the record player because you can't turn it off. That's usually when you have to use two negatives. Likewise if you used the valve you have to use two positives one of those being the stew and then something else to put him positive.

So say he's green and you want to get him red. You can use the valve and use the crank or algae cakes to get him into the red. Now if you want him in the green from red you can use the stew and the record player to get him back to green from that red state.

Two or the items have an exact opposite to neutralize them. That is the valve and the stew. If you want to counteract the good smell of the stew you turn the valve. If you want to get rid of the stink you open the stew pot lid. For each picture you want the opposite reaction to what he would have.

So for John Wilkes Booth you want positive, a Tannen positive, Edna negative, the child negative and Trixie positive. Hopefully this will help you understand it better. The first I played it on the PC the puzzle was a nightmare to understand. The only reason I got it so easy on the PS3 is cause I had already played the game on the PC also.
