Should I play the Atelier games that were released before this or is it a new story? I don't want to play it and be lost on whats happening in the story but I would really like to play it if i could...If anyone can explain how the games relate to one another I would appreciate it very much. (please don't use spoilers!)

The Atelier series runs in I guess you would call it sagas. Like Rorona/Totori/Meruru is the Arland saga, but the other Atelier games including Mana Khemia run in their own sagas in either like as their own trilogy or dual series.
So basically Atelier Rorona does take place after events of previous Atelier games on the same world and everything, but there is no story spoilers to worry about on other Atelier games. The only thing I can think of that's really in the other Atelier games that's also in Rorona is that Pamela the Ghost Girl is still around. But again there's no story spoilers of other Atelier games with her. Atelier Iris 1,2 and 3 also have a little more action in the story and so does Mana Khemia. In fact, besides the PS3 Atelier games, the only Atelier game that was localized that doesn't have too much action of a story is Atelier Annie on the Nintendo DS. All of the other Atelier games have not been localized. |

There's probably 20 Atelier games out now including spin-offs and side-story games, but America has only received like 9 of those games including the upcoming Atelier Meruru which ends the Arland saga of the series. You'll probably be ok if you played Totori before Rorona since it's more about Totori than Rorona, but it will help clear up some things of Totori's story by playing Rorona 1st. But definitely save Meruru for last for this part of the series. |

Wow that got me excited. I knew there were other games in the "series" and i understood that each was their own saga, but i didnt know all the games from this series
I want to play them all now (if they are localized) and cant wait. I enjoy this game and happy i jumped into the series on this title. Its challenging but still fun. |

I mostly recommend waiting for Rorona, but I think you should be ok with having Totori. Afterall, Atelier Totori is more about Totori then it is about Rorona. There are some story spoilers with some familar characters from Rorona being in Totori, but nothing to really worry about.
