I know there is a trophy involving the den defense mini game, but I have yet to have one happen (aside from the initial tutorial one). I have had my notoriety maxed out a few times, and I own several dens. Are these story-related, or do I need to trigger them somehow?

It can happen at any time as long as you are notorious. It actually happened to me a lot when I lost my notoriety, so you could possibly try that.
The "Successfully defend your den" thing (or whatever it's called) can be accomplished by simply replaying the tutorial, since it's the easiest of the games. |

Actually, the trophy I am talking about is to get a perfect defense of your den without using the Cannon ("Iron Curtain"). Since you must use it in the tutorial, you can't get that trophy by doing that.
There is no trophy just for "successfully defend your den".

You aren't forced to use the cannon in the tutorial, I got my trophy while doing the story related den defense without using the cannon. |

When I did the tutorial, the cannon was part of it. It made me place one before I could continue. I will try it again, but if not, I just need to know how to initiate a den defense mini game so I can try for it then.

I think you might be confusing "cannon" and "barrier".... the cannon is not part of the tutorial, it's that big huge thing that comes out of the sky when you press R2 (or was it L2?). The barrier is the wall thing that slows down the guards, which was probably required in the tutorial game.

I did use that. Where you move the circle to aim it like you do with bombs, then a big explosion happens? That was part of the tutorial, at least for me. I will replay it to see if it is something I have to do or just an option it gives me. Pretty sure the game told me to use it.
I am doing it again now to refresh my memory. Edit: You're right. The cannon is part of the tutorial, but you don't have to use it. Problem is, that big battering ram at the end of it goes right through my barriers, and out guns do almost nothing against it, so I can't destroy it before it touches the den, ruining my perfect victory.

Inifnitez is correct, you are not required to use the cannon:L2: in the tutorial Den Defense.
I got "Iron Curtain" on the Tutorial Den Defense, the first time. Other Den Defense missions are harder due to the number of soldiers in each wave and the fact the final battering ram is highly shielded to your attack. So replay the first Den Defense in the Memory Stream and just don't use the cannon, but make sure no damage is allowed on the den. |

I have tried beating that thing, but can never do it before he hits the den. I had walls wherever I could have them, and mostly gunners with a few crossbowmen on the rooftops (on both of the ones you unlock when the game tells you to and a third roof I unlocked just before it arrived - over 25 total defenders) and it still got through.
None of the bows or guns seemed to be doing any damage to it at all. Rsheb, you make it sound so easy but, as I mentioned previously, it is not for me. I don't know why. I have no problems with the guards, even making many of them turn and run from the fight. But, once that ram shows up, it takes out my barriers in 2 hits and moves to the next, and my guys can't seem to hurt it.
