There's a book for every one of the Assassin's Creed games (: but they do not include any of the modern-day Desmond parts, because the present time in the book is whichever time the main protagonist is in (Altair, Ezio etc).
The ACR book actually contains a tad bit more info than the game itself, but otherwise they're basically just the whole game printed out on paper. I still read them though lol

So, just finished the game...and I'm more confused than when I started. It's just crazy. It's almost like the show LOST...sucks you in for six seasons with a crappy ending. I'll be getting AC 3. I am really hoping that clears some things up.

I feel like this is the first game where absolutely zero things of consequence happened.
The entire Ezio portion revolved around getting into the library, and we're led on to believe that it will be something of great importance. Lo and behold it's the Piece of Eden from the first game and Ezio doesn't even do anything with it. As for Desmond, the entire plot of this installment can simply be put that he woke up! Getting to the new location was referenced to in the Da Vinci Disappearance DLC for Brotherhood, so apart from his father showing up, which was revealed in the last few minutes, nothing happened. Perhaps I've forgotten a few details, as I finished the game many months back, but I recall being extremely underwhelmed with the lack of story progression. |

I'd agree that the story didn't progress much in desmonds side of the game, other than learning his past in the desmond sequences. I still want to know why juno made him stab lucy!? As for ezios side there was some progression. He finally broke into altairs library after being sealed for centuries. He stopped the templar infiltration in the ottoman ranks and restored constantinopoli or in other words Instanbul. He trained a brand new order of assassins in that region, seeing as you had trained a different one in Rome in the previous game. What else? I really liked the altair memories. Brought me back to the days of AC1 years ago. What did annoy me though was that ezio kept talkin shit like he is on the never ending quest for truth but as soon as he meets up with sofia he gets all soft and doesnt want the assassin life no more. Not to mention when he did finally get into the library there was no books, no knowledge, no answers. Just the damn apple which he didnt even care to learn anything from. We did get to hear what jupiter had to say about how minerva, juno and himself had already gone through 6 different civiliations that had to be wiped out cuz they did not work. Overall good game and good story. Cant wait for AC3 !
