Everyone seems to be in agreement about how bad this game is. Despite all the bad reviews and negative feedback about AMY, I'm still going to buy it. Yes I know, I'm a fool. I need to find out for myself.

I can understand that, I'd be the same about it. Too many nice games I would've missed just because they were called poor. The issue is you never know before you tried. I could see getting some enjoyment out of this with a better checkpoint system, but still ... it's just not a good game. But that's fine, most bad games have a small fan base that love them. In this case, probably the developers.^^ (Just kidding.)

It simply isn't a survival horror. It's a survival puzzle. And a pretty hard one. Not much to do with Resident Evil or Dead Space. It's actually more like an harder, shorter Ico, This is what puts it down: - Controls: I'd find them intuitive if they were working. Amy may not stick quite often and going through a narrow passage takes few tries. Also the "bubble" power behaves on its own. - Checkpoints: they work like in the Playstation. Do it right or you must restart all over. Which could be fine. It isn't acceptable that one can't save at the last checkpoint, though. - Animation: It can get very slow on retarded things like climbing a ladder or hacking a terminal. - Graphics: either too dark (which means BLACK in some places) or tering when lighting up. The art design is cool, though. I have seen worse. - There is no map! That is very annoying. Being so dark it gets hard to remember where is what. The fighting takes a little to get used to. Simply I think we have 3 hits available. Then a pause. Still one can always avoid the attacks pressing circle. All together I'd give it a 7/10. It's short, made longer just abusing the difficulty. But it can be fun. Nothing special, though. Still it's only 10 euro/dollars. There are full games much worse. |

Well this is disappointing, I also really wanted to like this game. I almost bought it impulsively in the store today, thank god I didn't. Hopefully a demo comes to PSN, or it gets dumped onto Plus. Considering how bad the reviews are, I might just HAVE to play this game, but I really don't want to pay for it if it sucks.

I thought I'd add my impressions so far as it seems to be a completely misunderstood game. What I mean is, this game is all about trial and error and takes the brutality of Demon's Souls die and repeat to a whole new level. I finished Chapter 1 and have no issues having paid $10 for it.
While having to go back and repeat certain sections over and over until you figure it out or find what you need, can be frustrating it's also how the game gets it's longevity. Seriously, I read the review at gamespot and if the brutal nature of the puzzle system were dumbed down it would be over rather quickly. I'm not too far in but so far I have no issues with the controls. If you ever played Red Seeds Profile ( Deadly Premonition )[fantastic game BTW] then I doubt controls will be much of an issue. I'm enjoying the game for what it is and will be playing through without guides to fully enjoy the game but that's just me. Giving the game a 3 out of 10 seems way too harsh IMO and quite frankly to me makes it seem as though a person was upset because they couldn't figure out what to do or where to go, right now I'd give Chapter 1 a solid 7. |

You kidding me? First of all, Chapter 1 is more like a tutorial chapter, of course the game's shortcomings aren't all that apparent there. Also, having to repeat whole sections of a game again and again is probably the worst way to give it "longevity", especially when it feels totally unfair and annoying when you die - or are stuck in a level for one of the other reasons. I played Demon's Souls a lot and trust me, this is nothing like it.
Even with decent checkpoints and not having to restart a whole chapter when you turn off the console, AMY isn't good, the crappy checkpoint system is just the "icing on the cake". You sound like the developers on the game's facebook site - "uh, you might've heard stuff about our game, yeah, it's hard, we recommend everyone to play on easy". Sure, of course, all the flaws this game has are just being misunderstood from people who are not good at games. I'll tell you what a hard horror game with few checkpoints was: Forbidden Siren on the PS2. Miraculously, that one was a masterpiece. (Oh, it also made you replay stages several times, by the way, without getting boring or annoying.) I also played Deadly Pemonition and no, that doesn't make the controls any better. The thing is, DP never required more of what it let you do with the controls. AMY? Just trying to get the brat's psychic powers to hit where you aim them is a total struggle, probably due to the completely unnecessary involvement of motion controls there, and when you wasted two of the "charges", you must "run" back to the glyph somewhere back in the level in order to refill them. That's just bs. On a sidenote, does anyone else consider it completely nonsensical that she recharges her powers by copying drawings off a wall? Why can't she just look at the copy she already made? Or at least copy that one again? |
