This game has a mix of positive and a lot of negative. The problem here is that the feel was copied from old school games and unfortunately the developers felt that it wouldn't be accurate enough without making it feel as flawed as those old school games.

You just have to think about how collisions seem to have been implemented to see that nobody really likes that kind of experience anymore. It's essentially like hammering your fingers until you can't take it anymore and therefor claim you're the best because your friends couldn't do it as long as you. The thing is none of your friends are playing this game and you're really in this little world of mid-platitude where the use of a guide is absolutely necessary otherwise you wouldn't know that hitting the middle finger first is the wrong thing to do.

Bottom line is, the game's mechanics are intentionally rigged to make it seem harder, otherwise it's just bad & easy gameplay balance layered underneath a mid-comical graphical environment, average gaming complexity and short storyline experience.

6/10.

It may be weird to get two reviews TOTALLY different but i guess its kind of the purpose of this thread. In my opinion, this game is really worth a try.
Story : yes, we all know it, of course theres a sword in a pedestal, and yes there is only one hero that can save the world, and yes that hero is you ! (what a coincidence!).. The story is great, but certainly not original!

Gameplay : ah, the collisions.. If by that the above poster meant "running in the wall" then let me add something... I cant tell hes wrong because i guess its a matter of opinion, but yes, when you run into a wall, you get knocked down for a second... So at first i never used run command, but after doing dash races, you get to master a bit more and youll end up liking it. As soon as i finished my dash races.. I couldnt get anywhere without running (shouldve named my character forest gump )...
The game mechanics are old and innovative at the same time and theres only a small learning curve.. Youll know what im talking about when you get to swing a 30 meters large sword in all directions!

Controls : theres Absolutely nothing to say but "perfect" you can use left stick OR dpad and controls are perfectly responsive

graphics : graphics are ok, but its blocks... So.. Hum yea.. What you see is what you get .. Apart from water and reflects and such everythings made out of blocks.. Its pretty... Square.. But whatever, its meant to be that way.. Its it the title yknow.. 3d dot game..

Sound : the music in this game.. Is awesome.. Nothing less. Its half retro half modern, it represent 8bit music at its fullest.. The guy who made it is a genius (i think theyre two actually) Personally my favorite song is "to the wilderness" heres the Link if you want to hear

Wow factor : i guess this is the downside... 7/10 of this game is something we all saw before.. Its just represented a bit defferently.. The only new that could make you go wow is - the speed you get to run in minigames - and the HUGE swords you can get.. For me, the music was definitely a wow factor too

replay value : there is not a LOT of replay value unless you A) youre a completist or b) you wanna try harder difficulties c)you do trophies
if you usually finish the story and youre done, then no, there is no replay value for you on this game

multiplayer : none

Final verdict :
it will take time and dedication to get through the game on three difficulties and it will also be hard. If you want to get through all the stuff this game has to offer, buy it! Im serious. It was 40$ new when it came out, and today its about 30 new, 15 or 20 used so its definitely a good deal. If you just wanna play a bit and finish it one time, you could probably rent it, but BE WARNED !

some say its a rip off, others say its a tribute, but whatever.
I say its an awesome game for zelda fans and a unique game for those who werent born when zelda got to nes and snes (or just.. Didnt get to play it)

i would proudly give a 9.0/10 without hesitation
if you wanna know wheres the last point ;
it looses half a point for graphics because in a way, these ARE blocks no matter how you put them but in an other way, it really gives the retro feeling they WANTED the game to have.. So half a point here

and an other half a point for
the games unique events.. YES these are easily missable as the game wont lead you towards these events... If you want all swords and such you will NEED to follow a guide or it could take forever..if you fail to witness an event, you may miss a key item or such that could prevent you from getting all swords in this current playthrough.. Its not that cool, i know, but in my opinion its not worth a whole point.. So half a point here!! 9/10
