You will likely find they are in the same class in the classroom e.g. honor students etc because the leader of the class gets a small portion of the other members stats added to their own.
Therefore when you reincarnated Mao you still had the portion from the other characters but these dropped when you reincarnated them, therefore dropping their own stats and Mao's.
Lastly I can't say I have experienced being given a choice of evilitie.
