Devil May Cry 2 was made by a different team and rather than go with the DMC/Ninja Gaiden sort of skill play, instead they made it feel more like a Dynasty Warriors with a bunch of Giant enemies that are almost impossible at times to stun, launch, or juggle. You can sit there and do a full powered dashing combo on some of the enemies and their attack will still land and send you flying.
DMC2 is as much of a Devil May Cry game as Marvel Versus Capcom 3 or Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne with the Dante skin is a Devil May Cry game.
