I have been online before and thought i saw people with the same name play 2 player online. If i was mistaken i am sorry

I am playing online with 5 friends, and we need the 6th for the "boned" trophy. How do i join the game with the second controller? Is it that i have to be the host?

Let me know if anyone can confirm that you can play online with 2 controllers.
