I've seen FFXI once on a PS2 and I didn't like the gameplay very much. Maybe because I was too adapted to the PC version which I played for years.

Nevertheless I would always recommend a PC version. Not only because of the keyboard (which is available for PS3 as well...), but also the facts that you could switch between other applications. Being able to switch to an only wiki while playing or browsing while waiting was just huge.
